4th Grade Happenings

Sheridan Elementary - January 6, 2014

This Week in 4th Grade

Reading: In reading we will read Happy Birthday, Dr. King! Students will work on identifying cause and effect relationships as they read this excellent piece of literature.

Writing: This week in writing we will begin a personal and persuasive essay unit. We will start our week with an essay structure workshop. Students will learn how to structure an essay. Later in the week we will begin collecting ideas for future essays.

Mathematics: In Math we are continuing to build on our understanding of fractions. We will be focusing on adding and subtracting fractions, as well as, proving our thinking and understanding in solving problems.

Science / Social Studies: We will be researching famous Kansans to create our Kansas Characters Museum. More to be announced.

We have been using a web-based program called XtraMath to increase speed and accuracy in arithmetic. Your child is invited to spend a few minutes each day practicing math on the computer over the holiday break. If you don't have Internet at home we can suggest alternative activities which are also effective.

Contact Mr. Dinkel if you need your XtraMath enrollment code.

Math Masters: David-Jarrard, Elijah, Gabe, Ian, Becky, and Joshua
