Welcome Back and Happy New Year!!

We have started out the school year with 240 students. 59 of those students are school choice students. They are coming from all over...

19 from Holyoke, 9 from Easthampton, 5 from Montague, 4 from Northampton, 3 from Greenfield, 2 from Deerfield, Florence, Shutesbury, South Hadley, Williamsburg & Whately, and 1 from Ashfield, Chicopee, Conway, Haydenville, Springfield, Turners Falls & Westfield.

27 students out of 240 are brand new to Hatfield Elementary.

We welcome Kate Prajzner as our new SLP and Karen Baker as a new cafeteria worker.

Extra Recess

Teachers are encouraged to provide an extra recess for kids.

Research shows that students need opportunities to move in order to learn.

BOKS,

Friday Morning Dance Party and

extra recess along

with classroom movement breaks

and P.E. classes

are just some of the ways we are providing movement to our students.

HOMEWORK !

Our homework requirements have changed this year. No homework will be assigned in grades pk - 3. In grade 4, homework will be to complete any unfinished classwork and to study for Spelling. In grades 5 & 6 homework will be assigned as usual in order to prepare students for Middle School.

NEW REPORT CARDS!

Paul Duval, Riley and I have worked all summer on the new report cards. Paul and Riley have worked on the back end, making sure that the data for all students have been inputted correctly and that the programming will run when it is time to submit the grades. I have created the actual report cards with each grade level reporting out on individual skills for each subject. This has been a very arduous task that is a work in progress but we are confident that everyone will be happy with the results. There is a pretty steep learning curve for the teachers but we are touching base with them weekly to offer support and guidance. We will not be sharing the parent portal with parents in grades pk-3. Parents of students in grades 4-6 might have access later in the school year but we want to be sure that we are using the grade book module correctly before we share it with parents.
