A Message from Marcie 👩🏻💻
Thanks for a great week, South Park!
We had a terrific short week this week at South Park. Our word of the week was concise, so with that in mind, this message will be short and sweet.
Next week, we look forward to seeing our 5th graders perform in their grade-level production of Aladdin Jr. All K-4 students along with afternoon Early Learners students will be invited to an all-school assembly to watch the performance on Wednesday afternoon.
A huge thank you to all of the families who contributed lunches to Uncle Pete's Lunches yesterday. Students felt so proud as they came to school ready to donate their special, homemade lunches for people in need. Please enjoy some of the photos below.
Have a wonderful weekend!

MAP Testing Continues Next Week
Below is the MAP schedule for South Park. Specific schedule information will be shared by your child's teacher.
Winter MAP Schedule
South Park Read-a-Thon is Coming!
We are excited to announce that our Read-a-thon fundraiser is starting soon! Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading. Our Read-a-thon will help us raise funds for our annual Helping Hands Day, and to purchase ClassVR, an educational virtual reality system. The Read-a-thon starts January 30th. Next week, we will send home paperwork with your reader explaining how to activate their personal Read-a-thon page. Readers can qualify for fun prizes just by reading!
In addition, we’ll be holding some special events during the Read-a-thon to celebrate literacy even more. Wednesday, February 1st, is World Read Aloud Day. Each class will have the chance to Zoom with an author or illustrator to learn more about the process of creating books. Wednesday, February 8th, from 6:00-7:30 pm is our first-ever Winter Book-tacular! Bring the whole family for some Augmented Reality reading activities, crafts, stories, reading to therapy dogs, hot cocoa, and pictures with Parker Penguin! See this video from the Library Squad to learn more about these upcoming events.
Sponsor our Read-a-Thon!
Do you own or manage a business you would like to introduce to the families of our school? If so, we have something for you: an opportunity to promote your business while championing literacy at our school.
We are about to host a Read-A-Thon. Our Read-A-Thon website will receive tens of thousands of page views. That's thousands of people looking at your brand over and over again! One more thing. We will allow one business to be our Literacy Champion. That business will get to promote their brand on our Read-A-Thon bookmark that is given to every student in the school. There are a limited number of spots, and we’d love to partner with you! Click here to reserve your spot today.
Kindergarten and New Student Registration 2023-24 Now Open!
Our staffing decisions are based on the number of fully registered students, so the earlier we know who is coming, the better we can plan!
Just go to www.dps109.org/kindy to learn how to begin the process. Please reach out to our registrar, Rosa Castillo (rcastillo@dps109.org), with any questions.
Other Important Information ⚠️
- All visitors to South Park School MUST bring a valid driver's license or state ID card to the main office before entering into the building. Beginning this year, we will collect IDs during your visit and return it to you as you leave.
- If your child is going to be absent from school, you need to call or email us by 9:00 that morning. ** Call 847-945-5895, ext. 2103 and leave a message OR ** Email Nurse Nora Moskos.
- When parking in our Birchwood parking lot, please remember that our preschoolers are dropped off and picked up by the west end (closest to the school). Sometimes, their parents' cars can block a parked car from exiting for a few minutes. To avoid that, we suggest that you park closer to Birchwood Avenue.
- Please follow our morning procedures, and drop your children off at their regular grade level doors. If you choose to drive through the front circle at arrival, kindly stay in your car when you drop off to help us reduce morning congestion.
- Drop-off is between 8:35-8:45 a.m. Students who arrive after 8:45 a.m. will need to enter through the front door of the school, as all other doors will be locked.
- Dismissal for all Kindy and 1st-grade walkers and car riders will take place at their grade level door. Parents who park in the front circle should wait until 3:10 p.m. to do so.
- Dismissal is at 3:25 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. We dismiss at 2:25 on Wednesdays.
- Our practice is to let kids go outside if the temperature/wind chill is 10 degrees or warmer and it is not raining or snowing too hard.
