Elsie Rogers Express
Spring 2018
Spring Greetings!
Hopefully you all received your child's third quarter progress report prior to spring break. If you have any questions regarding markings please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. You will notice that every child has a marking regarding eLearning. These are required tasks that students are to complete when we have snow days. Some students also have a marking related to summer school recommendation. Students who were recommended are in need of reteaching to better prepare them for the next grade level. I would ask you to please consider this free opportunity that the district is providing. All forms need to be returned with your RSVP.
This month grades 3-5 students will partake in round two of the state mandated ISTEP testing. All testing experiences will be completed on the computer. Students will experience several days of testing so please be mindful of student absenteeism. It is extremely difficult to make up student testing sessions. Your child's homeroom teacher should be sharing your child's actual testing schedule in the near future. Please see the article below for additional testing information. Our K-1 students will participate in the End of the Year Dibels assessment. Their testing window opens April 11.
Happy Spring~

Second Round of ISTEP to Begin following Spring Break
Though we do not wish to cause any unwanted stress on your child during this experience, we do want children to be cognizant of the fact this is a very important test. Below are a few tips to help ensure your child has the best testing environment.
- Please make sure your child is in school during testing. Please DO NOT plan any appointments during testing or bring your child in late on these days. Testing rooms cannot be interrupted once the test begins. If your child does come in late, he/she will be asked to sit in the office until testing is completed.
- Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep before a test, and make sure your child eats properly the day of a test.
- Try to maintain a pleasant home environment and avoid unnecessary conflicts.
- Make sure your child has taken any needed medication.
- Remind your child to listen carefully to the instructions from the teacher and to read the directions and each question carefully.
- Wish your child good luck each morning of the test. Tell your child that he/she is special and that you believe in him/her! Encourage a "Just Don't Quit" mindset!

Register Now for the 2018 P-H-M Silver Mile Bubble Bash on May 5!
Do you like bubbles? Well, if you do, you’ll enjoy this fun change coming to the Silver Mile this year. The Silver Mile 5K Run/Walk will now be a Bubble Bash!
What is a Bubble Bash, you ask? It is a non-timed 5K Run/Walk that incorporates bubble stations along the route for participants to travel through during the event. Click here to see a video.
The Fun Walk will now be incorporated into this event, and there will be an option to take a shorter loop for those not wanting to run/walk the 5K. This event will start at 9:00 a.m. on the TCU Freed Field Track.
After the Bubble Bash, runners and families are invited inside Penn High School’s cafeteria for the Education & Health and Fitness Fair complete with free health screenings provided by the St. Joseph Medical Center. The popular Silent Auction offers a chance to bid on prime Penn student parking spaces and new this year … Penn Commencement front row seat!!! Student works of art and other items from community businesses are also offered. And the Talent Showcase has been expanded to an hour this year.
All proceeds benefit the P-H-M Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support excellence in education in all 15 P-H-M schools by awarding innovative teaching grants, scholarships to students, staff development and other corporation-wide initiatives.
Click here for early bird registration and for more information on the Bubble Bash.
