Kindergarten and First Grade
USEING VISUAL FEEDBACK TO DRIVE INSTRUCTION
After assessing the students through various tools including: DRA, DiBles, STAR, Waterford, and district kindergarten assessments, we divided the students into group to focus on specific skills. We used many research based interventions and programs including: Road to the Code, Road to Reading, Reading is Child's Play, KPals, Stepping Stones, Do the Math, Florida Center for Reading Research, and Reading A to Z. We kept track of the student's growth by having a visual assessment wall for all the teachers to see and use.
Assessment Wall
We color coded our kids by grade and added a colored dot to distinguish teachers. This is what the beginning of the year assessment results looked like. As the students progressed up DRA levels, we moved their card accordingly.
SIGNS, SIGNS, EVERYWHERE
After reading the book, Signs, Signs, Everywhere, the first grade students walked around the school looking for different kinds of signs that they saw. They then designed and made up their own signs to hang around the school.
