Mercury is classified as an inorganic chemical pollutant. It's common source is the burning of coal, over 50% of all mercury in the environment is released by burning coal. High levels of mercury in the human body can cause damage to the brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, and immune system. Mercury can cause death, reduced reproduction, slower growth and development, and abnormal behavior in animals, especially fish and animals that eat fish. The residence time for mercury in the ocean is ten thousand years.

How to stop this Godless Abomination

The only way to help with the mercury problem is to try to lower releases of mercury. The EPA has written many laws in accordance with the Clean Air Act to regulate the amount of mercury that is released, and how waste with mercury is disposed of.
