Updates/Reminders:
We will hold our first PTA meeting and Parent/Teacher Partnership Monday evening. The times for the evening are as follows:
PTA Meeting (with teacher introduction) - 6:00 - 6:30
Rotation 1 - 6:35 - 7:00
Rotation 2 - 7:05 - 7:30
Grade level teams should work together to create a short, informative, fun presentation to share with parents that focuses on curriculum and learning goals, not just behavior expectations. What are the big concepts in your grade level that students need to master? Fractions? Informational texts? What can parents do to help their child at home? You may want to share goals for each subject area for the year. Is there a word problem or reading question you could share with them? Think - what are parents always asking about that you would like to share now! If any grade level would like to work with Mandy to help prepare this, email her!
Playground Supervision:
It is critical for all grade levels to divide up areas where kids are at recess (ex: equipment, field, basketball court) for supervision. Please be actively supervising at all times. This is a time of day when many things could happen and we need to have an adult in all areas. Please also keep students out of the wooded area.
PLC: We will not begin our official PLC's until the week of 9/10. Please feel free to meet together as a grade level any day during specials time....teamwork makes the dreamwork!
Read/Understand NCE Handbook: All staff need to read the NCE Staff Handbook and complete this google form by 9/7. Completing the Google form indicates that you have read the NCE Staff Handbook and do not have any questions. Please see Carla or Eddie if you have questions.
NCE/CCS Non Negotiables:
- Schedules Posted: A school wide expectation is for each classroom to have a posted daily schedule. We want all schedules to look the same to help with ease of reading from one class to the next. There is a template linked below that everyone is expected to use. Please work to enter times for your schedule in the template provided and have the schedule posted by Parent/Teacher Partnership.
- "I Can" Statements: All classrooms should have "I Can" statements posted daily. During walkthroughs, we have noticed many of you have a place in your rooms designated for these statements, but they have not been updated. Please make sure you designate a location for "I Can" statements and begin posting these daily. This will be part of our instructional walkthrough document.
Planbook/Planning:
- Everyone should now have an account in Planbook. Please make sure you have your plans posted in Planbook weekly. Last year, many grade levels planned together and had a Google document linked into Planbook. We want it to work for you! However, we need to be able to find plans for all classrooms in one place. Please see Mandy if you have questions!
- During our walkthroughs, we have noticed that many of you have jumped right into the standards, while also creatively building cohesive, collaborative learning communities. Let's keep up that approach! With Tuesday being the sixth day of school, everyone should be working on standards in all subject areas.
Public School Works: Please work to meet these deadlines. This is a requirement for all staff.
Student Expectations:
We have loved watching all the positive modeling of school expectations! Please continue working on these behaviors:
- Hallway - All voices should be at a level 0 in our hallways. Please continue to practice and encourage with positive comments and incentives when students are doing it the right way!
- Whole group bathroom breaks are discouraged. It is rare that an entire class needs to go at the same time. K/1, please utilize the bathrooms in your classrooms. 2-5 please work with your students to develop a process/procedure for them to use the bathroom when there is a need or during a brain break. See Mandy or Carla if you have questions.
- Give Me Five - Our school-wide signal for getting everyone's attention and coming to a level zero is when an adult holds up their open hand. Please continue to practice using this signal with students and encourage with positive comments and incentives when they are successful!
- Lunchroom Behavior - Everyday before dropping students off in the lunch room, please talk to them about appropriate lunchroom behavior. Ensure that students raise their hand when they have a need and do not get up and down after they have been seated. We are still working on a goal of choice seating by the end of September.
And the winner is.....SATURN
Each member of Saturn will receive a 30 minute duty free/cover my class ticket that you can turn into Carla/Eddie/Mandy sometime when you need it. Please allow 24 hours notice for the need. : ) Congratulations!

Think of the following when doing your self-assessment (a bicycle analogy):
Developing: You get on the bike, know that you need to move the pedals to make the bike go, but you fall almost every time you try.
Proficient: You can get on the bike and ride it a short distance though it may be wobbly or you ride a further distance but you don’t ride often.
Accomplished: You ride your bike to work without thinking about the gears, pedals, etc. at all and you ride the bike every day the weather permits.
Distinguished: You ride your bike to work every day the weather permits, without thinking about the bike and you give riding lessons to others.
