Down Second Street
Mrs. Newman's Class Newsletter
What are we Learning This Week?
We will focus on character, setting, and plot this week as well as overcoming challenges. We will read, Just Like Josh Gibson, and discuss challenges that were presented in the story. We will also make personal connections to the text. These kids are great at making text-to-self connections!
In Math, we will finish up Unit 5 with an assessment and we will start Unit 6. A big part of Unit 6 focuses on representing data through picture graphs and bar graphs. That's always fun for the kids and for me! :)
I have enrolled the kids in xtramath.org so they can practice basic math facts from home as well as in school. I sent a letter home with each student about this today explaining how to get them enrolled on your home computers or tablets. We spent about 15 minutes today looking at the program and taking placement quizzes. The kids were all very excited about practicing their basic facts in a new way.
In Science and Social Studies we will continue our learning about landforms as we work in teams to create landform models. The kids will create technical drawings of their landforms as a team prior to actually building their models. They always enjoy hands-on projects such as this. Look for pictures on twitter because I'll share them when the projects are finished.
Friendship Celebration
My plan is to have ice cream sundaes for the kids that day. I will supply the ice cream, but we'll need a few donations to make the sundaes extra special. We'll need paper or plastic bowls, plastic spoons, napkins, chocolate syrup, caramel, cherries, and sprinkles. Please let me know if you're able to send in a donation. I'll need them by Monday, February 13th.
