Lateralization
Lateralization is two halfs of the brain that are not exactly alike. Therefore it doesn't take place tell puberty. Before puberty takes place the young uses the same part of the brain and once puberty is over the older uses two different parts of the brain.
Age
L2 is best learned between the age 2 and puberty. It take 2-3 years to be able to converse and understand people around you. It takes 4-10 years to be able to read, write, speak and listen at an academic level.
Advantages
Advantages - Has greater control over input
for older - Has knowledge from L1 to draw from
Advantages - Likely to develop a negative accent
for younger - Less to learn to be considered proficient
