FAC Weekly Update
August 26, 2022
Good Morning, FAC Family
This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
This week's leadership lesson:
Image is what people think we are; Integrity is what we really are. Your answer to the following questions will determine if you are into image-building instead of integrity-building:
- Are you the same person no matter where you are and who you are with?
- Do you make decisions that are best for others when another choice would benefit you?
- Are you quick to recognize others for their efforts and contributions to your success?

From The FAC Parent Guild
FAC Parents,
With school underway, it’s time for our annual FAC Parent Guild Membership drive. Whether you’ve been a member in the past or your family is brand new to the school, we hope you’ll join the Guild this year! The Parent Guild is a group of parents, just like you, who help support and show appreciation for the faculty, staff, and students in all programs at the FAC. We coordinate volunteers for student performances, collect funds to host events like staff appreciation week, and assist Mr. Popat in programs such as student appreciation days.
Our membership drive is in full force, and we need you! Please fill out the membership form at: Join the FAC Partners Parent Guild (google.com). The membership fee is $25 – you can send a check to the front office or pay via Venmo to @FACParentGuild in the Business Section.
If you don’t have time to help us right now, that’s OK. Just like your previous schools’ Parent-Teacher groups, we’ll send out notices of what we need and when, and you can donate time, talent or funds when it works for you.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We’re looking forward to a great school year!

Artist-in-Residence Spotlight - Carlos De Barros
Carlos received his BFA in Dance, with honors, from the University of Florida/New World School of the Arts (NWSA) collaborative dance performance program. He supplemented his training by attending annual workshops and classes at The Florida Dance Festival, The Pulse, The Jazz Dance World Congress, and at Broadway Dance Center to study with some of the top jazz and modern dance teachers in the business. He danced with many Florida-based dance companies such as Miami’s American Dance Theatre, Freddick Bratcher and Company, The Palm Beach Festival Ballet, and The Demetrius Klein Dance Company.
He was a faculty mainstay and taught all levels of dance, Repertory, and choreography classes at the popular Bak Middle School of the Arts for 15 years in West Palm Beach. In addition to his tenure at Bak, he has continued to teach for private and public schools around South Florida such as Miami City Ballet, as a guest choreographer at Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Dance Dept, NWSA musical theater dept, and guest choreographer for Ballet Palm Beach.
FAC Green Artists Club
Are you interested in helping to make Greenville a better, cleaner, more beautiful place? Would you like to spend some quality time outdoors, earning volunteer credit hours, and making new friends? Fine Arts Center’s Green Artists Club is an extracurricular environmental awareness/conservation group, dedicated to improving and beautifying our surroundings.
Current projects include our Adopt-A-Highway program, as well as afternoon trips to Conestee Nature Preserve, where the Green Artists eradicate invasive plants (such as kudzu) that choke out our native plant species. The group would also like to seek partnerships with local environmental groups, such as Friends of the Reedy River.
The group is currently collecting names and email addresses of all who are interested, and would like to set up a meeting soon after school. If you are interested in learning more or joining the group, follow our Remind group by texting the code @b89b9c9 to 81010. Any more questions? Amazing Concert Opportunity at the FAC
Tickets are going fast for the Mike Stern Band - Live at the FAC on Friday, October 28. You can get your ticket at the following link - https://fine-arts-center.ticketleap.com/mike-stern/.
A player of remarkable facility whose searing lines are informed mainly by bebop and the blues while also carrying a rock-tinged intensity, Stern made his mark with Miles Davis in the early ‘80s before launching his solo career in 1985. Since then he has released 18 recordings as a leader, six of which were nominated for GRAMMY® Awards. Stern was presented with Guitar Player magazine’s Certified Legend Award on January 21, 2012. Performing with Mike will be an all-star group comprised of his wife, Leni, on guitar; Moto Fukushima (from House Of Waters) on bass; Danny Walsh on Saxophone; and Juan Chiavassa on drums.
Absences from the FAC
Parents and students should be fully informed of the GCS and FAC procedures on attendance through the reading of pages 3, 4, 22, and 23 of the Student/Parent Handbook. Parents should use the following link to report an absence to the Fine Arts Center - https://forms.gle/ZArp88MeToYZzYPG9. The Google Form allows you to upload a documentation such as a medical note or parent note. Please remember that all documentation must be turned in within two (2) days of the student's return to school. Failure to do so will result in the absence categorized as "unexcused."
The following website contains both the link to report absences and a link for the Pre-Arranged Absence Form - https://www.fineartscenter.net/page.asp?titleid=absences. The procedure for Pre-Arranged Absences is outlined on page 22 and 23 of the Student/Parent Handbook.
