Chapter 5
This flyer was created to provide examples of how your child is learning the main skill focused on in each lesson of this chapter. You also have access to Math on the Spot fun and engaging video tutorials as well. Here's how to get there:
- Log in to Thinkcentral using your child's username and password
- Go to Library
- Click on Math on the Spot
- Find the lesson number on top of your child's homework (Lesson 5.2)
- Click on chapter number and then lesson number (for Lesson 5.2, it would be chapter 5, lesson 2)

There is no model for this lesson. The essential question for this lesson is: "How can drawing a diagram help when solving subtraction problems?" The goal is for students to read a word problem, and take it step by step. They are to think about what the question asks for and the information they need to use. By thinking through a problem and drawing a bar model, the students will be able to determine if they've arrived at a reasonable answer - one of the Standards for Mathematical Practices.
