Superintendent's Update
November 24, 2020
CCPS Community,
As we enter into the Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to take this opportunity to send a THANK YOU to the members of the CCPS community. As I said in my message to CCPS employees, this year there is certainly a different feel to this holiday where we reflect on all for which we are thankful. As we face a worldwide pandemic that has forced us to once again close schools, keep our distance from loved ones, and caused financial hardships for so many families, it is sometimes easier to be consumed by the challenges in front of us.
For me, I thankful for this community and the support that they have given to CCPS and specifically, our students. Today the Governor's Office of Service and Volunteerism recognized the Feed the Kids initiative in our county- a group of dedicated volunteers who quickly mobilized this spring in order to make sure that our students had access to meals during the closure- with the Governor’s Service Award in the Pandemic Response Champion category. I am so very thankful for volunteers throughout our school system who go above and beyond simply because they want to help.
I am thankful for the students, employees, families, business partners, and community members who make up our CCPS family. Through challenges that none of us could have anticipated, and recognizing that many challenges lie ahead, knowing that we are part of this community, in itself, is a blessing.
Although this holiday may not look the same this year, I would like to wish each of you a happy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.
