The Brookline Asian American Family Network, the Public Schools of Brookline, the Town Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations and the Public Libraries of Brookline invite YOU to our First Annual ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE DAY.
The all-day celebration aims to uplift our AAPI community and the books, authors and individuals that tell our rich and diverse stories. There will be readings, talks and book signings with featured authors Grace Talusan, Rajani LaRocca, Young Vo, Sheela Chari, Tae Keller and Susan Park. Vincent Po will recount real life stories of love through photo chronicles, Shaina Lu through community art & zines, Karen Tran spreads joy via TikTok, and Jiayi Guo & Jane Wang through music. At a special inaugural AAPI Heritage Day event at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, we will spotlight five of Brookline's very own essay laureates - winners of BAAFN's 8th Annual Asian American Student Essay Contest - Soomin Lee, Kalina Brookfield, John Watson, Tina Li and Lila Yoon.
The AAPI Heritage Day event will take place on Saturday, May 20th, 10AM - 3:30PM, rain or shine.
There will be food trucks, free tasty snacks, puppet performances, arts & crafts, games, prizes and more! We'll brew the program but you may want to bring your favorite beverage in an earth-friendly container.
IMPORTANT: Reservations are required for the Coolidge Corner Theatre event from 2PM - 3:30PM.
Free tickets are available here: The Coolidge AAPI Day Ticketing and in the end of this webpage.
We can't wait to celebrate with YOU! Make sure you bring the kids and tell your friends, too!
A huge thank you to the Brookline AAPI Heritage Day Organizers!
The AAPI Heritage Day event is the result of a Resolution passed unanimously by Brookline Town Meeting, co-sponsored by BAAFN, designating May as AAPI Heritage Month and establishing an official Town Celebration.
BAAFN is grateful to our event partners including the Brookline Booksmith and the Coolidge Corner Theatre.
We wish to thank our generous sponsors of this inaugural event, many of whom have supported BAAFN's seven past Asian American Student Essay Contests on "What It Means to Be an Asian American". They include BAB Korean Bistro, BIG/Brookline Interactive Group, Boston Portfolio Advisers, Brookline Community Foundation, GEICO, Faithful Flowers, John Hodgman & Adele Pike, Mint Julep, PAO Arts Center/BCNC, Pho Viet's Vietnamese Restaurant, Robert Guen DDM & Associates, Sanela Salon, Sheri Flagler and Susan Park/Children's Author.
