A Message from the Principal
Dear Jaguar Families,
Welcome to the 22/23 school year! Our first week of school was a huge success. Thank you to all families who attended our Open House night. It was great to see everyone's excitement for the new year.
This newsletter platform (called SMORE) will be used throughout the year to communicate important information. You may see this newsletter attached to an "InTouch" email as well. InTouch is the application used through our district's Student Information System and is updated as students enroll and disenroll from our school.
I will send out newsletters to all families at least once a month. Some months might require a mid-month update. The goal is to keep you as informed as possible!
A few reminders:
- School begins promptly at 8:50am.
- If you are a parent who drops-off or picks-up your child, please remember to pull all the way forward in the parking lot. This expedites procedures and allows us to get cars off the street quickly and efficiently.
- Our buses have finally settled into routine. We will continue to use InTouch to send Robocalls, Emails, and Text Messages, to families to inform them if buses are late.
- If your student is in need of supplies, please be sure to let your child's homeroom teacher know. We will ensure that every child has what they need to be successful here at school.
We encourage all parents/guardians to keep the lines of communication open. If you have a question do not hesitate to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher and/or advisor for support.

It is very helpful when parents/guardians call our attendance clerk for absences and tardies. Please be sure to reach out to Ms. Almaroad when your child is going to be absent or tardy.
The attendance line is 623-547-1103.
Ms. Almaroad's email address is almaroad@lesd.k12.az.us
We appreciate your support with this.
Grading and Communication via Email
August 15, 2022
Dear LESD Families,
LESD teachers and staff utilize effective grading practices in order to best support students and their learning. These grading practices allow teachers to ensure grades are reflective of mastery of standards, promotes focused teacher feedback and reteaching opportunities, reinforces student practice, and motivates students to focus on personal academic growth. District-wide grade level critical standards provide consistent guidance of what each student needs to master at their grade level.
To ensure what is graded truly measures mastery of the grade level standards, teacher teams collaborate with support and guidance from me and our instructional coaches. Students will demonstrate mastery of the grade level standards through classroom assessments, exit tickets, unit tests, essays, and other common formative assessments. Students will also have practice opportunities that will assist them with deepening new learning.
Thank you for all you’re doing to support your child this year. We look forward to our continued academic partnership.
Yours in education,
Mrs. Tassin

- Grade books will be updated weekly, on Tuesdays, and teachers will email progress reports to parents and students by 6pm.
- Due to district benchmark testing and reviewing routines and procedures, most teachers will not enter their first grade until the 3rd or 4th week of school.

Jaguar Booster Club
WE NEED YOU. In an effort to support our students and staff we are asking for your assistance. It has been several years since we've had a fully "staffed" booster club and we'd like to "BOOST" our members and attendance at our meetings this year. If you're unfamiliar with what a booster club does, please see the information below found on ptotoday.com.
Generally, a booster club is simply a type of volunteer-based parent group—just like a PTO. While there can be differences among all the different groups, they typically have several characteristics in common:
Goals: They all do great work for schools and students in their communities by offering financial support for equipment and programs that aren’t covered by a school’s official budget. In fact, the support parent groups provide runs the gamut from planning events to supporting teachers in the classroom, and much more.
Structure: They operate according to bylaws and manage themselves with a board that is elected by members. They can incorporate as 501(c)(3), nonprofit organizations.
Needs: Groups need to raise funds and require volunteers to facilitate activities and keep costs down. They may be required to submit financial reports, especially to comply with 501(c)(3) regulations. Insurance is often required for activities like fundraisers held on school property, in case of accident or injury.
You might ask: "How can I help?" There are several ways in which you can support our booster club.
- Financially through donations
- Donating your time
- Running a subcommittee
- Attending meetings
- Running for a board position
Our first meeting is August 25, 2022 at 6pm in the media center. Parents/family members who attend will be voting for this year's board and you can sign-up to be a committee member as well.
You can also express interest by filling out this Google Form.
Please reach out with your questions.
