Mariner Memo
January 11, 2019
On Tuesday, January 15th, Marine City Middle School will be conducting our 2nd of 3 lockdown drills that are required by the State of Michigan. At 1:30 I will notify the school through our announcement system that we will be entering into a lockdown drill and we will practice our procedures. Our hope is to never need this training, but to be prepared for it.
Starting on Wednesday, January 16th, girls basketball tryouts will be conducted after school for the upcoming season.
On Thursday, January 17th during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hours students will be attending an assembly in the media center, by grade, that is being put on by OK2Say and the Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative. Students will learn about the types of things to report to authorities, what to watch out for, and how to let adults know. They will also learn about their web presence and how to be safe online. All students are scheduled to attend this assembly. Questions and topics that will be discussed during this presentation can be found on the OK2Say website: https://www.michigan.gov/documents/ag/OK2SAY_Middle_School_Classroom_Discussion_Questions_531651_7.pdf
If you would prefer your son or daughter not to attend, please complete and send back to school the attached opt-out form below.
January 23rd, 24th, and 25th are half-days at Marine City Middle for our mid-year, end of term exams. School on these days will end at 10:53 and lunch will not be served. This is different from our early release days that occur once per month. On Wednesday students will attend 1st and 2nd hours, Thursday attend 3rd and 4th hours, and Friday attend 5th and 6th hours. Second semester (and any accompanying class changes) will start on Monday, January 28th.
I hope that everyone has a great weekend. Bundle up!
