A Message from the Principal...
Hi friends,
As we head into this final week before February Break, I want to thank each of you for your hard work and dedication to the students and families we serve. It’s no secret that we run at a pretty hectic pace all year long, and all too often we are focused on addressing things that need improvement as opposed to celebrating our successes. While I do believe there is value in reflecting on our current state and setting goals for what to accomplish next are essential ingredients to continuous improvement, I also believe there is value in “enjoying the moment.”
In this moment, I am grateful for the way our custodial team steps up to cover the workload and ensure our rooms and offices are presentable, even when they are down a crew member (or two). I am grateful for the way our office staff and other classified personnel professionally serve as liaisons to Twin Peaks families and PUSD at-large. I am grateful for our instructional assistants, counselors, and special educators who come together to support our students who are in crisis and most in need. And, I am grateful I have the opportunity to work with some of the best teachers, hands-down, across Poway Unified. Thank you for creating engaging and relevant learning experiences for our students and for supporting one another as you strive to be the best you can be. In short, there is so much to celebrate at Twin Peaks and I feel blessed to be along for the ride. I hope each of you has an amazingly fulfilling break.
Before you leave for break, I encourage you to watch this brief video clip I created to capture (and celebrate) the work of our Voyager teachers. I was able to share this with the Learning Support Services team who in turn, shared it with the school board. Thanks again to all of you for helping Twin Peaks shine each and every day.
Sincerely,
Kelly

Looking for great resources for Black History Month?
Log into My Connect and click your way to the Culturally Responsive Instruction Course where you will see a page for Black History Month. You can access Discovery Education, link to a Breaking Barriers essay open to all grade levels (Spanish version too!), and have a multitude of lesson plans to choose from. There are direct links to documentaries and poems for students to listen too.
We will be highlighting activities in our family S’more and Twitter this month, so please share out with Kelly, Rod, Shaylene, and your counseling team.
Interested in Becoming a Part of the Voyager Program?
Looking ahead to next year, we have the opportunity to expand our participation in the Voyager Program. The Voyager Program is a blended learning professional development model that supports teachers with flexible learning environments, balanced instruction of technology, and meaningful feedback to increase student achievement through professional learning opportunities and in-class coaching with an Innovation Coach. All participants will receive a chromebook cart for their use only! We currently have nine teachers participating: Megan Andrade, Tiffany Daher, Jenn Faulkner, Katie Fixsen, Amy Hillebrecht, Ethan Kaufman, Mikki Matautia, Deanna McLaughlin, and Danielle Rubacky. They have all had a positive experience with the program. I encourage you to reach out to them for additional information and I also have a flyer I can share with you. Please email me by Friday if you're interested. The IT Department is planning has already begun their planning for next year.
