Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school! It has been a great first week of school. This is an exciting time of the year as summer winds down and we continue to enjoy beautiful weather and transition into the school year. Thank you for all that our families have done to have our students ready for school.

Each and every Wednesday from the last day of school to the first day of school, Summit Street School opened with our teacher volunteers to provide summer reading book exchange. We hope you had fun and enjoyed your summer reading.

Please know that we are excited and ready to support your child in their transition to the next grade and all of the adventure and wonder that the year will bring. If at anytime you have questions or concerns, please know that we are happy to help you in the office, just stop by or call, my door is always open.

Walking Wednesday's -Starting September 4th

Wednesday's - Students, parents & siblings, please join Mrs. Gruendling and other school adults for a brisk walk to school on the “Wednesday Walking School Bus.” This is a great way to start the school day. Starting Point: We will meet children at the parking lot on Densmore Drive; the lot next to the old police station. This walking bus will depart at 7:25. Adults will stay with their children at the lot until staff arrives. We will walk rain or shine, sleet or snow but not in thunder/lightning or temperatures hovering near O (zero) or below!

Picture Day

Picture day is September 5th. Bring your Smile! Forms went home with your child on August 30th. Picture retake day with be on October 16th.


Reminder- every Tuesday, students will be dismissed at 1:45. Please make arrangements for your child's after school pickup plan.

Friday Folders

Friday folders are being sent home today to share important information with you. Typically these folders arrive home on a Friday and may include: student work samples along with other important notices. Students are expected to return this folder on the next school day. Please take a few minutes and read through everything that is in your child’s Friday folder.

Please go to the the EWSD District web page and under“For Families” you will find the Parent/Student Handbook; please review the handbook. Within the handbook, you will find information of what to do if you do not want your child’s picture, or classroom/assembly video (their portion) posted on/in the following: blogs, on-line classroom projects, assembly pictures, etc.

Student ID Numbers

Every child has a student ID number which can be found on the Friday folder label as well as on the student information sheet packet. This ID number is required to establish a food account “My School Account.” Information on how to use “My School Account” is located within the PARENT/GUARDIAN stapled packet of information sent home today in your child’s Friday folder. Bus information

We have busing! Busing information for your student can be found at Kindergarten and First grade students must be met by a parent or guardian at drop off. If you would like to designate someone else to get your child off the bus please fill out a Student Bus Note and give it to your child's classroom teacher. Please see Katie at the front office for the form.

Pick Up and Drop Off

Our drop off and pick up parking lot is at Holy Family and we have an additional parking lot on School Street! Please do not drop off in front of Summit Street School as it is a bus lane during pick up and drop off. Children enter the school from the playground each morning at 7:45 a.m.

Adult supervision is available on the playground by 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop your child off before that time.

At 2:40, kindergarten children and afternoon PK students are dismissed out back directly to parents/guardians. At 2:45 p.m., children in grades 1-3 are delivered to the playground by their teachers for dismissal and it is expected that all children will be picked up at this time. Please be sure we know your child's after school plan and any busing changes. Pick up dismissal is out the back of the building and Kindergarten Village Kids, Edge and busing is out the front of the building.

Children who are walking/biking home without parents are asked to leave and walk/bike home right away to ensure they cross with a stationed crossing guard. Please discuss the plan for the end of the day with your child and the teacher.

Holy Family

All cars entering the parking lot are to go in a COUNTERCLOCKWISEdirection......another words, when you enter from School Street, go RIGHT and around. There will be NO parking in this lane. Also, based on the arrows painted on the Holy Family driveway, you will NOT drive UP from Lincoln St....this is a DOWN ONLY lane. If you want to join your children on the playground at drop-off or pickup time, park in a designated parking slot at Holy Family or in Summit's lower parking lot. Longer stays at school will require you to park somewhere other than Holy Family as they need their lot available for events at church. Thank you!

Welcome back to another fun year at Summit Street School! We look forward to everyone being a part of PTO, in whatever way works best for you! There is plenty to do at varying levels of participation. Please join our first PTO meeting of the year at the Learning Center on Sept. 10 from 6-7pm. Free childcare provided by EJRP!

New this year – the PTO is selling Usborne- Cards For a Cause, cards for all occasions with coordinating decorative envelopes in a keepsake box. Stock up on cards for birthdays, holidays, celebrations, thank yous and more, while contributing to the PTO at the same time!

Join us in making EASY money for Summit Street with the Gift Card Fundraiser program! Purchase Hannaford cards at full value and Summit Street School PTO gets a rebate! This year we will be ordering cards on the 1st and 15th of every month. Drop your payment in the front office by the 1st or 15th of the month and your cards will be available the following week. We are setting a goal to raise $3,000 this year! If every family made a goal of purchasing ONE card this coming year, we would far surpass our goal.
