Hagood Highlights
Weekly Update - February 22, 2021
PRINCIPAL'S PEN
Parents,
The first week of March is quickly approaching and it always a fun time for us. March 1st-5th is Dr. Seuss week in conjunction with Read Across America Day on March 2. We have some fun activities planned for the week that we wanted to let you know about. These theme days should not require any purchases, just use what you have at home. :)
Here are just a couple of reminders on upcoming dates:
February 26 is a remote learning day. Since this is a planned remote learning day, students need to complete assignments that day if at all possible. We will have in-house make-up pictures for the yearbook on March 3.
Thanks so much, and let us know if you need anything!

Getting in Touch with Teachers via Phone
In order to protect instructional time, classroom phone calls cannot be received between 8:00-2:30pm. If you need to leave a message for your child's teacher, dial 864-397-1900 and press 0 for the front office.
One Book, One School - The One and Only Ivan
We FINISHED the book last week!
Some questions students discussed were:
Why is Ivan fascinated by the gorillas? What makes them so interesting to him?
Why do you think Maya showed Ruby on the tv to Ivan?
Do you think Ivan feels proud of himself? Is there a time that you have felt proud?
Why doesn’t Ivan want to go in the box that is for him? What are the humans doing with all of the animals from the Big Top Mall?
Why does Ivan not go into the gorilla exhibit at first?
Why is Ivan reluctant to join the other gorillas when he arrives at the zoo? How does he learn to be a true gorilla? What does he need to do to be accepted by the others? How do you feel when you are in a situation with other children you don’t know?
Discuss the theme of belonging in this story, from the point of view of each of the characters. What is the meaning of belonging for each of them? What does the idea of belonging mean to you?
The culminating event will be a Title I Literacy Night that in a Carpool Cinema Night in March for families to attend and watch the movie. We are researching the best location to conduct this event and hopefully will finalize the location and date this week.

Bunny Slopes by Claudia Rueda
Lines that Wiggle by Candace Whitman
Lines That Wiggle is a rollicking rhyming story about "lines that tickle, lines that sprout, bugs have lines that stick right out." Follow the glittery line that runs through this picture book and turns itself into all kinds of things: the waves above an octopus, the veins in a leaf, the wrappings curling around a mummy, and the trapping threads of a spiderweb.
Yearbooks
Yearbook order forms were sent home last Monday.
The window to order yearbooks is open until March 19th. We decided to start the sale early this year to give families plenty of time to plan their purchase.
Payments can either be made online at MySchoolBucks or sent to the school. Payments CANNOT be made on the Strawbridge website.
