Dear Crestwood Families,
It’s hard to believe the month of January is already coming to a close. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the District Curriculum Night last Thursday. We can’t thank all of our families enough for everything you do each day to support your child’s education, in addition to weathering the storm of COVID-19 guidelines and illnesses. We recognize the challenges parents and staff members face right now. We truly have an awesome community.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration has started. This is done online only, but feel free to call the Crestwood office if you have any questions about registration. Click here to register your child for kindergarten.

Bright Star Children’s Theatre
We’re delighted that Bright Star Children’s Theatre will be visiting Crestwood next Monday, January 31st, in honor of Black History Month. Our kindergarten through 3rd grade students will take a journey through time with Rosa Parks, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and many more heroes from history. Our 4th and 5th grade students will enjoy the Black History Hall of Fame where they’ll meet some of the most significant Black Americans in the last few hundred years. We’re extremely grateful for our PTA for making this opportunity possible.
Kindness Week
We’re kicking off February with a few exciting events! Encourage your child to join us in dressing up next week.
We will be celebrating Kindness Week next week, Jan. 31 - Feb. 4. In the spirit of February's character trait, cooperation, grade levels will be working together to earn as many points as possible by doing acts of kindness.
Teachers will provide every student with a Kindness Checklist. Be sure to ask your child for their check-list.
Students will earn points by completing tasks on the Kindness Challenge Checklist. They will receive 1 point for each task. Students may complete the checklist more than once.
The winning grade level will earn an extra recess.
Each grade levels' point total will be displayed in the hallway. Let the competition begin, and may our acts of kindness have a positive impact beyond school.
Monthly Character Trait Assemblies
Today and Monday, we’ll be holding grade level assemblies to celebrate students who have shown great leadership during the months of December (empathy) and January (courage). Although parents aren’t able to join us at assemblies right now, they continue to be a special tradition. We’re so proud of our student leaders.
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is just a couple weeks away. We’re looking forward to celebrating friendship at Crestwood!
On Monday, February 14th, staff and students are encouraged to join our dress-up day by wearing red, pink, and/or white.
If your child would like to bring a Valentine for every student in their class, they’re welcome to do so. Teachers will provide a class list.
Valentine cards often come with a wrapped treat. The school-wide expectation will be that all treats go home where they can be enjoyed.
Test to Stay Program
Crestwood, and all schools in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District, is now offering a voluntary COVID-19 testing program designed for students who are unvaccinated and identified as a close contact* of an individual at a school or school-related event who tests positive for COVID-19.
Called Test to Stay, this program is designed to reduce learning loss for students exposed to COVID-19 at school. The parent-consent testing program allows unvaccinated students, or those not yet fully vaccinated, to remain in school as long as they are symptom-free and test negative for COVID-19. Students who participate in the Test to Stay program will test at school the day we are notified of possible exposure and then test one more time on day 5 from the date of close contact.
Please note: If your child is identified as a close contact, you will receive a phone call from our school nurse (Sherise Cruz) or COVID Supervisor (Alisha Maulding). If you choose for your child to enter the Test to Stay Program, we will schedule an appointment for you to sign paperwork and for Mrs. Cruz to administer the rapid test. Appointments will be scheduled 10-minutes apart between 8:15am and 2:45pm to avoid congestion in the front office during arrival and dismissal. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
FAQs: Test to Stay Program
Who is eligible to participate?
With parent/guardian permission, students at all Sumner-Bonney Lake School District schools ages 4 and up who are unvaccinated and designated as close contacts of an individual who tests positive for COVID-19 are eligible.
Is testing mandatory?
No. The program is voluntary and parent consent is required.
Unvaccinated students and those not fully vaccinated (including booster) who don’t participate in Test to Stay and are identified as close contacts will be required to quarantine at home for at least 5 days, with a negative test, and no more than 10 days from the date of exposure.
What kind of test is being used?
SBLSD uses a rapid antigen, nasal swab test. When appropriate this is a self-administered, minimally invasive, nasal swab test and is observed by a trained adult.
How do I give consent for my child to participate?
You can either pre-register for the program by submitting a Parent/Guardian Consent Form (Spanish | Russian | Ukrainian) now or you can give permission when your child is a close contact at school.
When will I receive the test results?
Families will be notified the same day of positive test results by a school representative.
What are the testing procedures?
For students who have been identified as a close contact at school, families will be contacted and asked if they want to participate in the Test to Stay program, allowing their child to remain at school as long as they are symptom free. Additionally, the student will also need to test again on day 5 of exposure, and quarantine at home when they are not attending school.
If family consent has been provided, a test will be given and the student may return to class immediately (while awaiting test result) if they are symptom-free. Test results will be provided to the family and the school district by the testing company.
In some situations, students will be allowed to test the next day after being identified.
What is modified quarantine?
During modified quarantine, the student must quarantine at home except for attending school classes. Participation in non-classroom school activities, such as extracurricular and community activities, is not permitted, nor is attendance to group childcare or youth development programs. A modified quarantine is not an option for teachers, staff or other adults.
When can my child return to class?
A student who is not experiencing symptoms may return to class after the test is administered. Modified quarantine can begin while waiting for test results.
Can my child participate in non-classroom school activities and extracurricular activities during modified quarantine?
During modified quarantine, students may only attend school and must avoid non-classroom school activities, such as extracurricular and community activities, group childcare, or youth development programs for the “modified quarantine” period of 5 days from exposure.
Students may resume extracurricular activities on day 6 if both of their tests during the modified quarantine are negative (the second test must occur on or after day 5 after exposure). This is a requirement of the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) Test to Stay program.
What if my child is identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19 at school, is unvaccinated, and tests positive?
If the student tests positive, the student will be sent home for the identified isolation period, usually 5 days.
What if my child is vaccinated?
Students who are vaccinated and remain symptom-free do not need to test, even if identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
