All Jenkins High School students were required to design and complete a high school resume' for themselves. They have worked for several weeks during their Wednesday Advisement class to have a finished resume' by March 1st. Their advisors assisted them through the process. Ask to see your child's resume'. Help us encourage and discuss with them ways to enhance their resume'. Think of ideas such as more advanced course work, additional foreign language, increased community service, part-time job, etc. Our goal is to ensure our students are ready for post-secondary options after they graduate from HVJ! The time to start preparing and adding to your high school resume' is the first day of 9th grade. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Blake Mercer, the Assistant Director of Financial Literacy at Georgia Southern University is hosting a new program that they have started offering called FAFSA Fridays. Every other Friday they are offering assistance in completing the FAFSA. This is taking place at the Statesboro location and the Armstrong location from 11-1. In Statesboro, the location is the Rosenwald Building, on the first floor of the Enrollment Services lobby. At the Armstrong Campus, the location is Victor Hall, on the first floor in the Enrollment Services lobby. Below is a list of the dates that they have for this semester.

Congratulations to the HVJ Robotics Team for receiving the Innovative in Control Award at their recent competition!

Lexi Groff, Adon Oxendine, Jorge Merchan Millan, and Shawn Bulloch did a wonderful job representing our school at Statesboro High School.

Jenkins took 2nd place in the personal essay writing contest, 3rd in domestic extemporary speaking, and 4th place in the argumentative essay and dramatic oral interpretation.

Shakespeare Competition

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, the Savannah Chapter of the English-Speaking Union held its annual Shakespeare Competition at the Historic Savannah Theater on Chippewa Square. Each competitor is required to act out a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays and recite one of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Jenkins High School was represented by Leland Gillard and Eeshani Malkar.

Leland chose a monologue by Shylock from The Merchant of Venice and “Sonnet 18,” while Eeshani selected a monologue by Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing and “Sonnet 71.” Both students did an excellent job. Following stiff competition with students from other schools, Eeshani Malkar took Second Place and Leland Gillard was Fourth Place. Congratulations!

DECA will be hosting our "Marketing Madness" guest speaker series starting tomorrow. The goal is to bridge the gap between classroom and industry to show our students the various lanes within the marketing industry. Each event will take place 10:00 - 11:00 am in the auditorium with the exception of March 29th which will be virtual. In this project, students analyzed test results in order to design a procedure for recovering certain metals from wastewater using their knowledge of the Activity Series of Metals and single replacement reactions. Based on their analysis, students will create a proposal for presentation in an effort to recommend the best plan for reclaiming the metals from the wastewater.

Per federal guidelines, outside food and beverages may not be brought or delivered to the building. This includes Door Dash and Uber Eats. Please contact us should you have any questions. This a federal guideline that schools must adhere to on all sites.

The SAT is offered at Jenkins in March, May, and June of 2023. There is not a finalized plan for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Students must register for the SAT on their own. If you have questions or need assistance, please see your counselor. Thank you!

The students of French 3 Honors meet with Honorary Consulate of France, Madame Valérie Grankow. They learned about what the Ambassador of France does along with her job as an Honorary Consulate. They also got to practice their French and show off their communication prowess.
