On Saturday, March 4, 2023, the Savannah Chapter of the English-Speaking Union held its annual Shakespeare Competition at the Historic Savannah Theater on Chippewa Square. Each competitor is required to act out a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays and recite one of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Jenkins High School was represented by Leland Gillard and Eeshani Malkar.
Leland chose a monologue by Shylock from The Merchant of Venice and “Sonnet 18,” while Eeshani selected a monologue by Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing and “Sonnet 71.” Both students did an excellent job.
