Happy New Year!
January 2023
Ready, Set, Goals!!!!!!!!!
Welcome back,
The Parent Resource Center is excited to welcome 2023 with our CISD families. We all have heard of setting New Year's resolutions at the beginning of each year, so this month our theme is focused on Ready, Set, GOALS. Allowing our families and their students to be ready, prepared, and set personal goals that can assist students in the home and/or public settings. As parents of CISD students with special needs, we understand how important it is to ensure we have in-home strategies and schedules to help assist our children with in-home/public tasks or activities. Contact the Parent Resource Center to set an appointment for a visit and create personalized visual supports that you can use at home with your student. Visuals such as First/ Then, Ways to Cope, Schedules, Emotional and Feelings Regulation Strategies, Potty Training, and more are helpful supports for you and your student. You can also come in and check out books from the PRC Library.
Thank you all for your continuous support of the Parent Resource Center and our Parent Training Events.
We wish each of you a very Happy New Year!

THE FOUR GOALS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION
INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT
Cognitive or intellectual development is one of the biggest goals of early childhood special education. This deals with strengthening and growing a child’s ability to think, reason, and understand concepts.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Some special needs children struggle to develop fine or gross motor skills at the same rate as other children. Early childhood special education aims to assist in developing a child’s strength, balance, and coordination.
EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
It’s not called the terrible twos for nothing! Toddlers tend to experience rapid and intense mood swings. Early childhood educators aim to help children regulate their emotions and self-soothe during emotional outbursts.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Another fundamental aspect of a child’s overall development is social development. This refers to a child’s ability to interact with peers, foster friendships, and strengthen communication skills. Special education teaches children how to navigate these interpersonal relationships with conflict management.

Cerebral Palsy Resources
Individuals with disability are often limited in their ability to perform activities of daily living for extended periods of time, or without assistance. Limitations – functional, physical, mental, or emotional – require dependence upon service supports. The ability to be self-sufficient, earn a steady and adequate income, provide for basic needs, and navigate within the community may be significantly limited without support. Disability or impairment can be temporary as in the case of a debilitating illness, or chronic as in the case of Cerebral Palsy.
The goal of government assistance, community support and funding, and resources and information is to provide individuals in need with the type of assistance that can optimize their ability to function as independently as possible while providing basic human needs and quality of life. Assistance comes in many forms. It can come from an individual, assistive technology, an organization, the government, or a service animal.
