Scheduling for the 2021-2022 School Year
-select at least 6 credits worth of courses (courses are worth either .50 or 1.0 credit,
except PE I or II which is .25 credit)
-is the student on track to meet graduation credit requirements
-what are the plans for after high school; find classes that will help with that goal
-is pursuing a bachelor degree (4 years) an option; if so follow the college prep curriculum
Course selections sheets will be collected the week of March 22. Students will be turning them into the homeroom teachers.
The school counselors are available to discuss any of these questions with students and/or parents/guardians.
Students are able to participate in CCP at a variety of schools. Each school has a different set of requirements and some have changed due to the pandemic. Our students typically take courses through Kent Ashtabula or Lakeland.
Due to Covid, Kent is not requiring students to take an assessment for admission to the CCP Program. Students need an unweighted 3.0 cumulative GPA (an overall GPA that includes grades from all the courses the student has taken) in order to participate in the program. Applications for Spring 2021 are due April 15th; applications for Fall 2021 are due June 1st.
We do offer a few College Credit Plus courses in English. Students who are interested in taking these courses next year, must apply to Kent College Credit Plus Program by June 1st. In addition, students need to select the course on their course selection sheet. Students must also submit the letter of intent by April 1st. This can be done with the form below or on through this link: https://forms.gle/kqnkDNMo6XfMmLdf8. For a list of transferable courses, please visit: https://www.kent.edu/ccp/allowable-courses.
If you would like to know information about the College Credit Plus program, please visit https://www.kent.edu/ashtabula/ccp-info-nights. There is a video that Valerie Gonzalez, Kent Ashtabula's Admissions Counselor, recorded. Please note that this was done before the the state announced that the colleges do not have to require testing in order to participate in the program. This video has information that will apply to other schools besides Kent, but please check with each college for their CCP requirements.
How do I apply for College Credit Plus?
1) Submit the Letter of Intent: https://forms.gle/kqnkDNMo6XfMmLdf8
2) Apply at the college you would like to participate at:
Ken State University - Ashtabula: https://www.kent.edu/ashtabula/ccp/apply-now
Lakeland Community College: https://lkn.lakelandcc.edu/public/apply/
3) Kent State University requires a CCP Permission Form - It is available to download directly below.
Lakeland Community College is still requiring a placement exam for admission to CCP. Students can use the ACT or SAT score if it meets college readiness benchmarks, or they can take Lakeland's placement exam. You can schedule it at: https://myportal.lakelandcc.edu/web/about/schedule-test-ccp.
If you are not sure if you can use your ACT or SAT school, please contact your school counselor to discuss.
4) Contact your school counselor and request your transcript to be sent.
