BOISE HIGH INSIGHTS!
3rd Quarter
From the desk of Robb Thompson - Principal
Dear Boise High Families:
I hope you are well and enjoying some of the nice weather we have had in the last couple of weeks. It is hard to believe that we are already well into the 3rd quarter of the 2017-2018 school year. As we approach the final grading period, we begin planning for next year. Our Open House for incoming sophomores was held on January 30th, with excellent participation from prospective students and their parents. It looks like most of the 545 future Braves took advantage of the opportunity to learn a little more about Boise High. Most of our seniors are well on their way to completing the last of their college applications, making gap year plans, or putting together a plan for life and learning after graduation from Boise High School. Counselors will be visiting classrooms to assist current sophomores and juniors with online registration for classes next year.
The winter athletics season is wrapping up with great results for all teams. Our Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team has had a great season thus far and will begin SIC 5A District Tournament play on Tuesday. Our Wrestling Team has a number of student-athletes who will compete in the District Wrestling Tournament starting next week, and the Lady Braves Basketball Team is traveling to Grangeville for the State Tournament play-in-game tomorrow. All of our teams have had great seasons thus far. We are quite proud of the excellent sportsmanship and competitive spirit with which all of our student athletes and coaches have conducted themselves. Congratulations to all who have participated, cheered, and continue to enjoy the winter athletics season.
The month of April will be a busy time for our sophomores, who will be taking the State Science Assessment in either Biology or Chemistry (students may choose). The ISAT 2 in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. The specific testing dates for ELA CAT (Computer Adaptive Test), ELA Performance Task, Math CAT and Math Performance Task have not been set just yet but will take place during the month of April. We will send out specific information as we develop the schedules. Also in April, our juniors will be taking the school day SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) on Tuesday, April 10th.
Another big event coming to Boise High is our “And Justice for All Summit.” The date for the Summit is Wednesday, March 21st. This will be a regular, full day of school and attendance will be counted. The Summit is a student and teacher planned, student led project based learning opportunity for all students and staff members. We are very optimistic that the summit will positively impact our community regarding issues pertaining to social justice. Our students have been working diligently to put together informative and engaging lessons with a fun and learning filled day for all. We are extremely proud of the work our students, particularly the AVID 11 class, have done with this project based learning experience.
On Friday, April 27th we will have our annual “Heart of the Brave Assembly.” The Heart of the Brave Award celebrates the positive characteristics displayed by Boise High students on a daily basis in regards to academics, music, the arts, activities, athletics and community contributions; recognizing those students who live and lead by example, be it quiet or vocal. Some of the characteristics these students display are integrity, excellence, dedication, respect, dignity, responsibility, honesty, teamwork, courage, kindness, compassion, perseverance, and empowerment – to name a few. More information regarding the specifics of the Heart of the Brave Assembly will follow in the coming weeks.
Lastly, I would like to share some data with you regarding current academic performance of Boise High School 10th and 11th grade students on the PSAT, which was taken in October of this school year. We have much to celebrate; 79% of BHS sophomores met benchmark standards (college preparedness) in English, Reading, and Writing, while 54% met the Math standards. The junior class had 79% meet the English, Reading and Writing benchmark, with 58% doing so in Math. These numbers are significantly higher than District, State and National averages for the same age groups. Have a wonderful weekend and Go Braves!
Respectfully,
Robb Thompson

PARKING @ BOISE HIGH!
Parents and Students,
Parking at Boise High is very confusing at most. Visitor parking is an issue with one of our buildings gone. We ask that when you do visit Boise High that you park on the city street. Boise City allows you to park in the surrounding area for an hour and a half. There is also parking on Washington and 9th street across from the Old Gym on the side of the Carnegie Building that is metered - $2 for four hours. We ask that you do not park in either of the faculty parking lots off Franklin. We are sorry for the inconvenience, and look forward to having proper visitor parking once our new building is complete.
Also our security officer wants to remind students to park in ZONE 2 (blue signs). Boise City has started towing vehicles that are not parked in the proper Zone. Unfortunately if the students don't abide by the Zone parking rule, the city has the right to revoke the parking passes. Please remind your students to park in ZONE 2 . The link below is the Student Handbook and the parking map for ZONE 2 is located on page 12, and also available in the main office

Little Women: The Broadway Musical
Produced nationally and internationally, Little Women has been praised by critics for its ambition in adapting such a well-known story for the stage. This timeless, captivating story is brought to life in this glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love. The original production starred the unparalleled Sutton Foster, who received Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk nominations for her performance.
Based on Louisa May Alcott's life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.
