HMS Bearcat Bulletin
A Note from Ms. Buschmann
At school, we are in the midst of mid-year NWEA testing, boys basketball season, and a kindness challenge being coordinated by a group of 6th grade students. Please enjoy this newsletter and an update on the goings on of HMS. Please note the invitation to our firsts Family Movie Night this Friday, December 9. We will be showing the Secret Life of Pets. This is a free event open to all; I hope you and your family can join us.

With so many busy families and the craziness of early mornings, it can be difficult to make time to sit down long enough in the morning and eat a nutritious breakfast. Yet, we know that breakfast is important. Studies have concluded that students who eat breakfast increase their math and reading scores and improve their speed and memory in cognitive tests. When students eat closer to test-taking time perform better on standardized tests than those who skip breakfast or eat at home. (Source: National School Breakfast Program)
In order to meet the needs of all of our students, we are now offering a "grab and go" option which consists of a smoothie and muffin. This option is available for all students, and several are taking advantage of this nutritious choice.

American Education Week
At HMS, we had a lot to celebrate. Students identified their favorite thing about school on post-it notes and shared with others. We gave our school a great big "hug" to show our community how much we love it, and students wrote "If I were principal..." essays for a Principal for the Day contest. Students also participated in Teacher Trivia and wrote thank you notes to school personnel. It was a great celebration!
