MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD WITH STATE REPRESENTATIVES IN COLUMBUS
Did You Know? The impact of Governor Kasich’s proposed budget reductions on public schools around the state amounts to a $3.5 million reduction of state funding dollars for Strongsville City Schools in just one year.
Please share your disappointment and opposition to the Governor’s proposed budget reductions. Your opinion matters and we encourage you to reach out to both State Representative Thomas Patton and State Senator Matt Dolan. Below are links to letters that can simply be printed, signed, and mailed. If email is preferred, the letters can be copied and sent to Representative Thomas Patton (rep07@ohiohouse.gov) and Senator Matt Dolan (dolan@ohiosenate.gov).
SCS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL “FOOD FIGHT”
Elementary schools in our District will soon be having a “food fight” to benefit the Strongsville Food Bank. Students at each of our elementary schools are encouraged to bring donations during the week of May 22 in a friendly competition of which school can collect the most non-perishables. The Strongsville Food Bank is in need of the following items: peanut butter, jelly, toilet paper, tuna fish, canned fruit, and canned vegetables. We can’t wait to crown the winning school in this year’s “Food Fight.”

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - CHAPMAN ELEMENTARY 4TH GRADE TEACHER DENISE SCHROTE
Chapman Elementary’s 4th grade teacher Mrs. Denise Schrote is this week’s Mustang Spotlight. Mrs. Schrote is in her 27th year teaching in Strongsville City Schools. Other than a short time at Zellers, Chapman has been her home for her entire career. She has been an elementary school counselor, an intervention specialist, as well as teaching both 3rd and 4th graders.
Mrs. Schrote received her undergraduate degree from Baldwin Wallace and earned her graduate degree from Cleveland State University. She serves as Chapman’s Technology Coach and is also on the school’s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Committee, as well as the District’s Language Arts Committee.
Her favorite part of the day is “seeing the enthusiasm that my students have for learning. It is motivating to watch kids get excited when they solve a challenging math problem, become so interested in a novel that they don't want to put it down or see their writing evolve from a simple paragraph to a multi-paragraph essay. I love to see the enthusiasm that students have with the technology that is now being used in the classroom.”
Mrs. Schrote adds, “Chapman Elementary is a special community that supports each other. I am blessed to work with a team of people that truly cares about kids and each other and gives 100% each day. I feel that the parents of my students at Chapman are very supportive of their students' learning and of me as an educator.”
Thank you Mrs. Schrote for your enthusiasm and making sure your 4th graders capture that same passion in learning!
STAY SAFE, SPEAK UP
Strongsville City Schools is committed to the safety and security of our students. Your report will go immediately to district administration and/or the police depending on what is reported. HERE is the link for more information. Just click the Stay Safe, Speak up (black and red) icon on our website to make a report.

They perform the necessary pre-solving process of understanding the problem, gathering information, taking inventory, discussing possible approaches and trying to gain insights to the architecture of the solution space. The focus is on consensus building, developing mental stamina, contributing as a team member, developing social capital and becoming an independent, creative problem solver. Subjects include operations research, pattern recognition, risk management, probability, geometry, topology, game strategy and logic.
