First Grade News April 29, 2016
What have we been up to this week?
- In reading. we reviewed characters, setting, and plot. We also worked on using context clues to find the meaning of an unknown word.
- In writing, we reviewed all pronouns, and completed some grammar reviews on Moby Max. We also practiced writing observations and inferences in response to a picture prompt! This skill will be very helpful when transferred to texts later in your child's education.
(Remember that I do not have all of my homeroom kids in math.
Be sure to ask your child what he/she is doing in math class!)
This week, Mrs. Bodart's class challenged us! On Monday morning, they arrived in our classroom to announce that they would like to see which class could earn more Dojo points in a week! It was a VERY close competition most of the week! At the time of publication, Mrs. Bodart's class was ahead by one point!
Above: A photo we sent to Mrs. Bodart's class via Twitter to let them know that we were winning one afternoon!
Above: The students used story spinners to discuss the characters, setting, and plot of a story that we read together.
Brown County State Park Field Trip
On the day of the trip, students should wear comfortable walking shoes and have clothing on that is appropriate for the temperature as most of our day will be outdoors. If your child does not order a school lunch, you will also need to send a disposable sack lunch that does not require refrigeration and a drink (not soda!). Do not forget to label your child's lunch with his/her name!
Permission slips and money ($8.00) are due on May 13th!
