Review this newsletter each month for important messages and information about (or related to) professional development for mentors and new teachers, teacher support, and new teacher induction.

Baltimore City Schools' Induction Vision

City Schools Induction is a comprehensive system of aligned supports and professional development opportunities designed to increase teacher effectiveness, teacher retention, and student achievement.

Building Capacity for the Future!

As part of our teacher induction program, mentor development is one major component. The mission behind Mentor Academy was to build capacity within all of you as teacher leaders. Each year a group of new teachers come into our students' lives. Each of you must lead the way and guide them through that process. You ARE advocates, counselors, confidantes, teachers, and most importantly, leaders. I hope this summer you were able to visualize yourselves as strong teacher leaders who have the ability to impact the future of our students, our teachers, our schools, and our organization. As we start this school year, I hope you continue to participate in professional development to support your teacher leadership. I look forward to supporting each of you as we work to build capacity for the future!

Accountability Log

Use the Accountability Log link throughout the school year to document your work and supports with your new teachers. You are expected to complete this link for each new teacher you work with twice a month. New teachers are untenured and in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of teaching with BCPSS. For example, if you have 4 teachers, you should have completed 8 forms by the end of the month. (This is assuming that you are seeing your teachers twice a month.) This includes any teacher who is new to the district for their 1st year with the system. You can enter the log in more than twice a month if needed. You must have logged your information in order to receive 2 AUs for mentoring at the end of the 2015-16 school year. As of right now, there have been 50 entries made by various site-based mentors mostly at the secondary level. T7, T8, and T9 have been the strongest areas of focus.

This form is also available in a paper version on Office 365 under "Documents" on the Mentor Academy site. Please use the Accountability Log link for your monthly submissions to Teacher Support and Development in the Organizational Development Office. The hard copies do not get handed in to the district office. Please keep those for your school's documentation. When your log is submitted, a copy will automatically be emailed to you and your mentee.
