Worth Repeating...
Upcoming Screenings
Just a friendly reminder to parents that throughout the year we do screenings that are recommended and guided by the district. We will be conducting and continuing with these as staff and student schedules permit. The ongoing screenings are vision, hearing and scoliosis. Please refer to the parent handbook for details on screenings during the middle level.
- Vision screenings are done using the spot vision screener. It is a camera type device that takes an image of the students eyes using an auto refractor light requiring no verbal response.
- Hearing is done using a headphone set. We test 3 different tones all set to the same volume.
- The procedure for screening scoliosis is a simple one: the nurse will examine the student's exposed back while he/she stands straight and again when he/she leans forward. Screenings will be performed in the locker rooms to provide as much privacy as possible. Parents will be notified of abnormal screenings. If your student is uncomfortable exposing his/her back, we recommend the student wears a tight fitting tank top under clothing.
Please reach out to Tracey Rausenberger, our school nurse, with questions.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
Summer School Enrollment Opens Wednesday, March 1, 2023
It is hard to believe that the LPS summer school enrollment window officially opens in less than a week! Families will be able to begin enrolling your child(ren) beginning Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Notes came home with students on Friday about this. The portal to register students (grades K - 12) will open at 1 p.m. on March 1. This year's summer school program will take place Monday, June 5 - Thursday, June 29, 2023. Please note that the deadline for both transportation and the Kid's Zone program will be Thursday, April 6, 2023. To find out more information regarding the 2023 summer school program, click here. We will also be sharing a reminder next week when the registration portal officially opens.
No Tax Increase Bond Issue and Levy Transfer Issue Information
Our team is in the process of sharing information about the upcoming April 4, 2023, $120 million No Tax Increase Bond Issue and Levy Transfer Issue with the LPS community. There will be two in-person community meetings held, the first on Tuesday evening, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Mid Continent Public Library - Woodneath Library Center, located at 8900 NE Flintlock Road.
We will then offer a morning meeting coming up Thursday morning, March 16 at 9:30 a.m. at the Liberty Public Schools District Administration Center, located at 8 Victory Lane, Liberty, MO.
If you are interested in finding out more information about the Bond Issue and Levy Transfer, we encourage you to visit our Bond Information Portal that is available on our website, and can be accessed by clicking here. In addition, be looking for our 30 Things to Know About the April 4 No Tax Increase Bond Issue and Levy Transfer series on our Facebook page, which begins Sunday, March 5, 2023.
3rd Snow Day and Beyond:
Because LPS has used two of our traditional snow days, any more school cancellations where families receive a call from Mr. Ackerman, our students and staff will still conduct school virtually so we do not have to make up the snow day.
Students should log in to Canvas to access their lessons for the day.
Work will be posted on Canvas by 8:00am
Most teachers will choose to post their assignments on Canvas for students to do at their own pace (we know that there are often other home obligations on snow days).
Students in need of additional assistance can seek help from teachers (teachers will advertise their “office hours” on their Canvas pages).
Work should not exceed 30-minutes a class. If there is a zoom session scheduled, teachers will make students aware and it would take place during their natural class time slot as if they were in school.
Immunization Clinics
Keeping your child immunized is important to their health. Clay County Public Health Center provides thousands of immunizations to children from all over Clay County each year. The Clay County Public Health Center Registered Nurses will be offering all required and recommended school immunizations for all middle and high schools in the Liberty School District. To be eligible for the school immunization clinic the student must be in middle school between the ages of 11-14 or in high school between the ages of 16-18. Clay County Public Health Center accepts and will bill most major insurance plans including Medicaid. Students without insurance or insurance that doesn’t pay for vaccines can also receive the vaccine at no cost during the school immunization clinic. If your child is covered through insurance, you must enter the information on the registration form. Without including this information, there may be delays with processing the form, resulting in the inability to see your child at the clinic. The dates and locations for these clinics are listed below.
