Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
February 1, 2018
Happy Catholic Schools' Week!! This past Sunday and Monday, Our Lady of Good Counsel School held two incredibly successful Open House sessions! Thank you to Ms. McCann, Mrs. Matysik, the faculty and staff and the countless number of people who helped in the organization and running of this event. Our Parent and Student Ambassadors truly represented our school so proudly. Our students clearly demonstrated the mission of our school!! During our Open House event, we were able to shine and share all that is great about Our Lady of Good Counsel School. As a result we had many new registrations and our Preschool classes are close to full! If you have not done so, please make sure you register your child soon. Thank you for supporting Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School!
As always, many great things continue to happen!
- Our Day of Giving was a tremendous success!! Thank you to all those who donated any amount on this day. These much needed funds will be used to turn our current Media Center into a state of the art Digital Learning Commons! The total amount raised on the Day of Giving was over $15,000! It is not too late to contribute if you missed the 24 hour period. You can do so by calling the school office. Thank you for all you do to continue to help advance the mission of Our Lady of Good Counsel School!
- Our Lady of Good Counsel School is proud to announce that we have been accepted into the Bishop's Tuition Transfer Grant Program. We competed with over 45 schools within the Archdiocese and were one of 20 selected. This program will provide tuition assistance of $1000 for the first year and $500 for the second year to eligible families transferring into Grades 2-7. We will also receive a $1000 grant to begin to market this program!
- As we begin to reinvent what our classrooms look like, we will begin the process of replacing the Smartboards and projectors with the newest technology. Smartpanels do not require a projector mounted in the ceiling. They also have the ability to connect with the chromebooks students are using in the classroom. In order to assist us in this project, we have received an anonymous donation in the amount of $10,000! We are incredibly grateful to our donor for affording us the opportunity to accelerate our plans to have this project completed for next school year.
- As we continue to make our way through the cold and flu season, be assured that we are taking all necessary precautions here at school to keep our students healthy. Each classroom is equipped with Lysol wipes, Lysol spray and food handling gloves. Desks, doorknobs, light switches, etc. are being wiped down at the end of each day. Students are being asked to bring water bottles to school as we are not allowing anyone to use the water fountains. Keep stressing the importance of proper hand washing at home with your children and we will do the same at school.
- The school calendar for the remainder of the school year has been updated. Please pay careful attention to the attached copy below.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God's Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley
Principal

"Virtue of the Month"
The virtue for the month of February is courage. Courage is the ability to show bravery when facing difficulties. Courage enables you to do what is right even when you are afraid of the consequences. It is the ability to overcome our fear and stand up for what is right in the eyes of God. If you see someone displaying the virtue of courage, fill out a virtue slip for them. The winners will be announced at our next Community Homeroom.
