Celebrating Outstanding Achievements in Art
We are thrilled to share some exciting news that brings pride to our school. Cassidy Baker, one of our talented middle school art students, has achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving a prestigious award at the Lorain County Region Scholastic Art Awards Program.
The Scholastic Art Awards program, with a century-long tradition, is the largest annual national art competition in the United States. Over 15,000 entries are submitted each year from students across the nation, making it a highly competitive platform. Cassidy's work stood out among the 1340 works and 37 portfolios submitted online, showcasing her originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a unique personal vision.
During the event, Cassidy was presented with a Gold Key pin, a symbol of her outstanding accomplishment. This pin is a special honor that she can choose to wear at graduation, making it a lasting memento of her artistic achievements in middle school.
The Lorain County Region Scholastic Art Exhibition is currently on display at the Beth K. Stocker Gallery on the second floor. We encourage all members of our community to visit and witness the incredible talents of our young artists. The exhibition runs until February 14, 2024.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Cassidy Baker for her exceptional achievement and thank her family for their support. Cassidy's success is a source of inspiration for all our students, proving that passion, dedication, and creativity can lead to extraordinary accomplishments.
Pancakes with Pals Brings Families Together!
At Horizon Science Academy of Lorain, we recently had a sizzling good time with our little ones at the "Pancakes with Pals" event, a breakfast that had elementary students from grades 3rd to 5th brimming with excitement! The event was more than just a feast for the taste buds – it was a celebration of the importance of parent engagement in our students' lives.
Parents, siblings, and pals alike sat side by side, indulging in stacks of fluffy pancakes. "Pancakes with Pals" was more than just a breakfast event; it was a chance for families to connect, share stories, and create lasting memories. Parent engagement plays a crucial role in a child's academic journey, and events like these provide a unique opportunity for families to actively participate in their child's school life.
The success of "Pancakes with Pals" highlights the importance of fostering a sense of community within our school. It's not just about academics; it's about creating an environment where families feel welcome and actively involved in their child's educational journey.
A huge shoutout to all our families who joined us for this fantastic event! We look forward to more opportunities to come together, share a meal, and celebrate the magic that happens when pancakes and pals unite.
Here's to many more syrupy smiles and pancake-filled memories!
CYSP Students Stir Creativity with Hot Chocolate Bombs
In a cozy corner of Horizon Science Academy Lorain, the Concept Young Scholars Program (CYSP) students turned a regular Saturday into a sweet and educational adventure. This January, the talented young minds of CYSP gathered for a delightful session of creating the latest sensation – hot chocolate bombs!
The Concept Young Scholars Program is not just an acronym; it's a vibrant community dedicated to improving academic success, preparing students for college, nurturing strong character, and empowering them through Personal Development, Community Service, Physical Activities, and Educational Adventures.
The mission of CYSP came to life as students immersed themselves in the art of crafting these delectable treats. The event wasn't just about making hot chocolate bombs; it was an opportunity for hands-on learning, creativity, and community building.
As hot chocolate bombs have become a viral sensation, the event allowed students to explore the intersection of food, science, and creativity. It was a chance for them to take a break from traditional learning and engage in a hands-on experience that sparks curiosity and innovation.
The CYSP program envisions a community where structure and devotion result in self-motivated, eager learners who are prepared for the future and ready to lead successful lives. Events like these play a crucial role in achieving this vision by fostering a sense of camaraderie and encouraging students to explore their passions beyond the classroom.

This outstanding win propels our academic team to the next round, where they will be competing on Saturday, February 10th at the Elyria Library (time to be determined).
A special spotlight shines on Josiah Johnston, who not only contributed significantly to the team's success but also earned the prestigious title of the Most Valuable Player. A panel of judges bestowed this honor upon him, acknowledging his outstanding performance in the competition.
As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Nevaeh Tanner, Josiah Johnston, and Tim Vovak for their stellar performance and the honor of representing HSA with distinction. 4th Graders Dive into Learning at Lake Erie Nature Center
The Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village became a classroom for our enthusiastic 4th graders on their recent field trip. Packed with hands-on experiences and exciting discoveries, the trip was a perfect blend of education and adventure.
One of the highlights of the day was a captivating lesson on erosion. Students eagerly gathered around water and sand tables, immersing themselves in an interactive activity that brought the concept of erosion to life. With waves lapping against the sandy shores, the young learners witnessed firsthand the transformative effects of water on the landscape, deepening their understanding of this natural process.
The encounter with wildlife was another memorable aspect of the trip, as our students had the chance to meet new animal friends. From the playful opossum to the curious skunk, the slithering snake to the majestic owl, each creature brought a sense of wonder and excitement. Guided by knowledgeable educators, the students not only observed these animals up close but also gained insights into their habitats, behaviors, and roles in the ecosystem.
The adventure didn't stop there. The 4th graders embarked on a cosmic journey during a mesmerizing planetarium show. With wide-eyed fascination, they learned about the eight planets in our solar system, their unique characteristics, and their positions in the vast expanse of space. The planetarium experience transported the students beyond the confines of the classroom, fostering a deep appreciation for the wonders of the universe.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated educators and staff at Lake Erie Nature & Science Center for providing our students with an educational journey filled with discovery and inspiration. These experiences not only enhance their academic understanding but also instill a love for nature and science that will undoubtedly shape their perspective on the world.
Here's to the joy of learning, the thrill of exploration, and the beauty of connecting with the wonders of our natural world!
