Cultivating Critical Thinking and Creativity in Responsive Learning Environments

I would like to highlight how staff and students managed the Primary Zoo trip dilemma, after the owner was brought up on charges for animal cruelty. Well done! What a great example of critical thinking and student voice. Dawn's students, who are focusing on perspective this term, did a great job preparing a public debate about the issue. And primary teachers, great job at extending the learning through literacy and math as a follow up. Great to see that the majority of students voted to find an alternative trip and Big Sky Ranch, that takes in rescued animals, will be a wonderful opportunity for them to extend their thinking about animals in captivity. And the opportunity to extend this to French is impressive too - students get to see connections between many areas of learning at school. A truly collaborative effort!

At our staff meeting on May 10th, we will continue our conversation about the conditions for thinking classrooms. As well, we will hear from Keith about Compass for Success. Please let me know if you have any other agenda items.

Have a good week,
