News from the Principal
What a fast and furious week! CTA Goodman Students and Teachers have been busy.
Last Friday we had our wonderful Veteran's Day Celebration. Our students did a wonderful job paying their respects to those who have served in the Military. We were able to celebrate and honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to "Veterans Day" in order to account for all veterans in all wars.
Please visit our CTA Goodman Facebook page for more pictures.
Thank you CTA Gator Families for donating your Tax Credit Dollars. Our students have gone on some wonderful field trips so far this year and we have more planned in the 2020 school year.

National American Indian Heritage Month
Mrs. Piffero-Coochwytewa Sharing Native American Culture
On August 3, 1990, President of the United States George H. W. Bush declared the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month, thereafter commonly referred to as Native American Heritage Month. This commemorative month aims to provide a platform for Native people in the United States of America to share their culture, traditions, music, crafts, dance, and ways and concepts of life.
I had a great time sharing our culture and traditions with the 3rd grade classes at our school. I am Shoshone-Paiute from Northeastern Nevada and my husband is Hopi from Northern Arizona and Isleta Pueblo from Isleta, New Mexico. So Khloe and her brother Zachary are Shoshone, Paiute, Hopi, and Isleta. I shared many items from all four tribes and a couple of items from the Tohono O’Odham tribe here in Arizona. We talked about the cultural significance of their upcoming field trip to Montezuma Castle National Monument in Camp Verde, Arizona.
The items that were shared:
30 year old Shoshone cradle board
Several traditional tools and cooking spoons made out of willow from Northern Nevada (Shoshone)
Several baskets from the Hopi tribe that were used to store food and other household items Pottery from world renowned pottery/bronze artist from Caroline Carpio (Isleta Pueblo)
Hopi Rattle used for ceremonial purposes
Traditional Tohono O/Odham basket used for water
Buckskin moccasins worn during ceremonial dances
Traditional Jingle dresses worn for dances at Pow-Wows
We also talked about Native Americans from history and in today’s world. Many of the kids actually surprised me as they had known about famous Natives Americans such as Jim Thorpe! I was very impressed. It was a great day and I am very thankful to have had this opportunity to share who we are with the young people from CTA Goodman.
