From The Desk of Annette Doyle
Dear Peter Noyes Families,
As you recently read in Superintendent Crozier’s communications, there are changes to our COVID mitigation measures beginning Monday, March 7. As we have done throughout the pandemic, we will continue to monitor transmission and positivity rates and respond accordingly. Let me start with some fabulous news…all of our pool testing results this week were negative!!
MASKING
Masks will be optional for students, staff and visitors in our school buildings AND on buses starting Monday, March 7. Masks will be required in the Health Office and for individuals who have tested positive and are returning to school between days 6-10. Teachers are previewing this shift with a special focus on respecting the choices of students, families and staff members. It is important that everyone in our school community respects these decisions.
VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS
Visitors and volunteers are welcome back into the school starting Monday! Before volunteering, please read this important information, which you can also always find on the Peter Noyes website.
SPEAKING OF VOLUNTEERS – LUNCH/RECESS VOLUNTEERS ARE BACK!
If you would like to volunteer for lunch and recess duty, please sign up here. As always, you must have an approved CORI check on file in the office.
TESTING CONTINUES
Our testing mitigation continues through our weekly PCR pool testing and at-home testing. Click here to sign up to participate if you haven’t already and would like to do so.
SPRING PARENT CONFERENCES
March conferences are underway, occurring on the afternoons of March 2, 9, & 16. Spring (can we call this Spring?) conferences are one of the four formal touchpoints between teachers and families. We have two parent conferences (October and March) and two report cards (January and June). If you have not signed up for your conference, do so today! Conferences take place in person at school, but virtual conferences are available upon request. Contact your child’s classroom teacher for more information and to schedule an appointment.
FOOD PANTRY COLLECTION ON FRIDAY
The next monthly collection date for Sudbury Food Pantry is Friday, March 11. Thank you for your contributions throughout the year. They are truly deeply appreciated. The third graders have chosen the theme of wearing Hawaiian shirts and/or any brightly-colored clothing on Friday.
SUPPORTING STUDENTS DURING THE UKRAINIAN CRISIS
As the war in Ukraine unfolds, we continue to do our best to support students. While many of our young children remain unaware of these events, other students are asking questions and seeking reassurance. The district has added resources to our Social-Emotional Parent Resources page to support families in these difficult conversations. Please reach out to the classroom teacher or a member of our mental health team if your child needs more support.
As teachers reviewed the changes to masking this week, there was a special emphasis on being kind (see a sample from the slide deck below). Of course, it’s not just about the masks. In these troubling times, it is especially important to be compassionate to one another, to see the humanity in each other, to be kind.
Warmly,
Annette Doyle
