Standardized Testing Information
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the warmer weather.
Each spring our students at Half Day School and Daniel Wright Junior High School are required by the State of Illinois to take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness and the Illinois Science assessment. Though our federal government allowed all states to waive assessment requirements last spring due to the COVID19 pandemic, we will not have a waiver this year, and are being required to administer each assessment in-person at both Half Day School and Daniel Wright Junior High School.
Here are some details for each assessment, including who is required to take it, and the purpose of the assessment:
IAR (Illinois Assessment of Readiness) - This assessment, consisting of both ELA and math sections, is required by the State of Illinois to be taken by all third- through eighth-grade students.
The data from this assessment provides information to the state regarding how our schools are performing.
The State of Illinois is requiring that the IAR be taken in-person.
ISA (Illinois Science Assessment) - The State of Illinois requires that this science assessment be taken by all fifth- and eighth-grade students.
This data is also used by the state to monitor school performance.
The State of Illinois is requiring that the ISA be taken in-person.
Administering these assessments will require an alternative schedule. We are tentatively planning to administer the assessments during the second half of May, but more specific schedules will be shared soon.
If you have a remote student, and you will require bus transportation for the assessments days, please fill out the Transportation Request form. If you have an in-person student, then please have them use the transportation method that you currently use each school day. Please keep in mind that the assessment schedules may require mid-day transportation to or from school.
If you have a child who is learning remotely, and will not be able to attend school in-person for the required assessment(s), please complete the IAR/ISA Remote Student form.
Please be on the lookout for additional information, which will include assessment schedules, information about transportation, and steps you can take to help your child prepare for assessment days.
Thank you in advance for partnering with us to successfully administer the spring assessments!
Sincerely,
Craig Chatham, Director of Technology and Assessment
Katie Reynolds, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction
