Earth Day Resources with NGSS Connections
KET has it all and you can connect to NGSS
If you're looking for some new Earth Day resources, your first place to browse should be KET Encyclomedia. From the main page you can access resources on Discovery Media and PBS Learning Media. If you need help logging in/setting up an account in Discovery Media, just let me know. Your PBS Learning Media log in should be the same that you use for the beginning of the year professional development work.
Discovery Media
A quick search for "Earth Day" on Discovery Media will bring you to a collection of content that includes: writing prompt, song, articles, an activity and of course videos that range from topics about human impact to human effects on the environment to the history of Earth day to information about different conservation efforts.
Videos in the Earth Day collecting including "Energy from Wind" and "Solar Power without the Sun" support NGSS 4-ESS3-1: "Obtain and combine information to describe energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and their uses affect the environment". You may also find some points of discussion for NGSS 3-LS4-4 "Make a claim about the merit of a solution to a problem caused when the enviroment changes and the types of plants and animals that live there may change" in "Vanishing Species" and "Science: Declining Animal Populations".
PBS Learning Media

Check out the video "Earth Water Filter" to learn about designing a water filter and connect to NGSS K-2-ETS-1-1 "As questions, make observations, and gather information about a situation people want to change to define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool". Search "Earth to Blorb" and see a variety of video clips related to habitats and NGSS 2-LS-4-1 "Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats".
