Pleasant Valley Family Newsletter
December 2, 2022
Our mission is to empower and inspire a community of lifelong learners and leaders!
Dear Pleasant Valley Families,
I hope that everyone had a safe and pleasant Thanksgiving Break! Looking forward to this holiday season, staying healthy can be challenging this time of year, so I am requesting that all parents regularly wash and sanitize all lunch containers, gloves, and hats to minimize spreading germs. The return of cold weather is on its way, so please be mindful that students go outside for recess as long as the temperature is 20°F or warmer, factoring in the wind chill. Your child must be appropriately dressed for the weather - if needed- a warm coat, hat, gloves, and boots. Please label every item your child has with their name - it helps find lost items!
Speaking of lost items, many of those we shared photos of a few weeks back remain. If items are not claimed by winter break, they will be donated. If your child misses an item, please encourage them to visit Lost & Found. Unclaimed items in our Lost and Found, will be donated on December 20th. Please click this link to view the items that we have. If you see an item that belongs to your child, please encourage them to come down and look in the box for the row attached to the picture.
As we are midway through the second grading period, two important things come to mind. First, timely and regular attendance is essential for your child's success. Please be reminded that learners are admitted to school at 9:10 am and can go to their classroom at 9:15 am each morning. School begins at 9:15 am. Students entering the building after 9:20 am are tardy. When a child is tardy, they face the challenge of rushing to unpack and then "catch up" with what the class is engaged in. In addition, being on time for school is part of the preparation for the world outside of school. Second, if you have not had a chance to meet with your child's teacher this year, please reach out to them. Teachers can schedule a phone, in-person, or remote conference with you before or after the school day (8:45–9:15 am or 3:30–4:00 pm).
Finally, the holiday classroom parties will be held on Tuesday, December 20th. Be on the lookout for detailed information from your child's classroom teacher!
I want to thank you for your partnership with Pleasant Valley! We are very appreciative of all of you! If you have any questions, concerns, or just a great idea you would like to share, please email me at bokas@parmacityschools.org or call the main office at (440) 843- 3661 (until 440.885.2380 works again) any weekday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Very Sincerely Yours,
Mrs. Stephanie Boka

Way to Prevent Tardiness
Have your child set out her clothes for the next day the night before. Her backpack should contain all her books, supplies, and homework she will need for the next day. Get ready for all of the supplies and equipment needed for after-school practices and activities. Have your son or daughter make his lunch if he brings it, and ensure he is in bed at a reasonable hour. Set the alarm 10 or 15 minutes earlier than necessary to ensure your child has enough time to get to school before the tardy bell rings.
STILL Attendance Phone Line (440) 885-2380 Temporarily Disconnected

PV Giving Tree
'Tis the Season of Giving The Pleasant Valley Giving Tree is Here!
Pleasant Valley PTA proudly participates in the Giving Tree program every year. Please show your compassion with a donation to bring holiday cheer to families in need throughout the community. There will be a Christmas tree set up in our school lobby with ornaments designating a boy or girl with their age and gift idea. Families and staff can take an ornament from the giving tree, purchase a gift, and return the gift unwrapped with the ornament attached. We are always amazed by your generosity. Thank you in advance for your kindness.
Please bring or have your child bring the unwrapped gift(s) back to school and place them under the tree in our school lobby through Friday, December 16th. Please remember to attach the ornament to the gift! Please contact me via email if you have any questions at pleasantvalleyelementarypta@gmail.com.
Thank you,

Attendance is Important
Attendance Procedures
If your child is going to be absent, please call our office at: 440-885-2380 no later than 9:30 am. If the absence requires a doctor's visit, please provide a doctor’s note when they return to school. Daily student attendance is a vital component of student academic success.
