Feedback on Hybrid Schedule
Families of Yelm Community Schools
Thank you for providing us with input on the YELLOW hybrid schedule. The preference of families and staff was to attend two days in a row in-person and three days online. Based on this feedback, instructional best practices and other health and safety operations, the district will be implementing two choices for families.
Hybrid Instruction: Two full days of in-person with Group A attending (Monday/Tuesday) and Group B attending (Thursday/Friday) and three days of Remote Education and Learning (REAL)
100% Online: Student will receive Remote Education and Learning (REAL) online with certified teacher(s)
Description of Hybrid and 100% Online Models
Students will be automatically assigned to Group A or B unless they “opt-in” to 100% Remote Learning and Education (REAL).
In-person instruction will follow health and safety guidelines which currently require:
Six foot distancing in classrooms
Increased hand washing and access to hand sanitizer stations around school
Face coverings to be worn during the school day and on buses with planned breaks
Adjustments to lunch, recess and movement between classes to best allow for physical distancing
Daily health screening of all persons on campus, and parents will attest to the wellness of their child(ren) daily
Our next step is to identify any families that will choose 100% Remote Education and Learning (REAL) by completing an “OPT IN” form.
Please review the expectations before completing the “OPT IN” form.
Student will be provided a district device.
Students will need to engage all day in their assigned learning. This will be recorded as attendance.
Student will need to demonstrate a full day of learning five days a week by completing assigned videos, activities, and assessments throughout the week which will be taught by a certificated teacher(s).
Family must provide daily wifi access to participate in Google Classroom, live Zoom and recorded videos.
Grab n’ Go meals will be provided at identified locations.
To ensure adequate staffing and support for 100% online learning, families will be committing to this model for a minimum of one semester.
The “opt in” application must be completed for each student by August 5 at 5 p.m., or the students will be assigned to Group A or B.
Continued Communication
The district will be working to create student groups based on the “opt-in” results. Shortly, families will receive communication regarding a student’s group assignment and new procedures to start the school year. The School Board will adopt the final 2020-21 School Calendar on August 20. However, school will begin on September 2.
We know there will be many questions about school operations, transportation, safety protocols and instruction. We are continuing to update materials on our website to support families. Continue to monitor the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section.
Thank you for your input and support as we create a SAFE START to SUCCESS for our staff, students, and families.
