Euphemism

/yo͞ofə, mizəm/

A euphemism is a polite or indirect expression used to replace words that are considered too harsh or impolite.

Examples: "downsizing" instead of "firing" or "passed away" instead of "died"

Euphemisms are used all of the time in everyday language. Using them can make what you are trying to say sound less serious or less awkward.
