7th Grade Counseling News and Ambassador For Change Program Updates
Welcome to 7th grade News!
I will be coming around to the classes to conduct Minute Meetings with all of the students in the coming weeks. My hope is to have a brief interaction with them, and get some data regarding their needs for the school year.
Signs of Suicide Classes will begin in October. This is a mandated class which touches on the emotional changes in 7th grade, signs of depression vs. suicidal ideation and where to look for help. It teaches them to look for specific signs among their peers, and where to seek help. This class will be conducted during their PE classes.
Harassment vs. Flirting workshop. At the middle school level students will increase their knowledge between sexual harassment and flirting. This class will be conducted in the classroom, hopefully towards the beginning of Second Semester (maybe earlier). We talk in-depth about appropriate relationships, social media and how to be safe online and out in the world.
Academic Career Plans. Let's go to the computer labs! During this class, students will be introduced to their personalized Academic Career Plans (ACPs). These ACPs must be conducted during their 7th grade year. We will revisit the Career Clusters and get them started on some short and long term goals.
Ambassadors for Change
I am in the process of creating the documents to establish the rules, expectations for the classroom presentations, and goals for the school year.
I will give the students who were ambassadors last year the opportunity to "re enlist" for this school year. However, this is not mandatory. I have some new students that I'm already thinking about adding to the program.
Recruitment will happen during their remediation cores.
More info to come!
Goals for the Ambassadors for Change Program
- Builds Leadership among the students
- More demonstrations of compassion and empathy
- Unify the students and staff
- Promote anti-bullying among our students
- Student leaders where they become more invested in their school environments and promote positive relationships.
Let's talk Changes!
Students on the Principal List will get their Special badge which will give them the ability to be at the front of the cafeteria line.
We may have some additional fun things to give them as well.
My goal is to send out a Quarterly Newsletter with their names, so that their families will share in their academic success. I remember, I used to love seeing my name on my school's newsletter and showing it off to my parents! There's something beautiful about the written word.
