End of 1st Quarter

Fall Festival
We had an amazing turn out on Friday evening for our PTA sponsored Fall Festival. A great big THANK YOU to Cathy Datz, her committee, and the many volunteers for all the hard work they put into making this event so successful and engaging. This year, we had a "sensory friendly hour", which provided students and their families an opportunity to participate in an environment that is most comfortable for them. If you took pictures during the event and would be willing to share them with us for our Memory Book, please email them to lisbonmemorybook@gmail.com.
Hopefully, we are nowhere close to having inclement winter weather. Below, I've included some information about the new process for repurposing up to three days as inclement weather asynchronous instruction days. There is also information about the different status codes and how the school system decides to close schools or postpone the opening of schools.
Thank you for your continued support!
Mrs. Anoff, Principal

INCLEMENT WEATHER ASYNCHRONOUS INSTRUCTION PLAN
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) now allows local school systems to repurpose inclement weather days as asynchronous school days. At the discretion of the superintendent, HCPSS will use up to three inclement weather asynchronous days during the 2022-2023 school year. One of two additional codes will be instituted to reflect the decision to transition to an asynchronous instruction day:
- Code Purple Asynchronous Student Day - School buildings and Office buildings open for staff only
- Code Pink Asynchronous Student Day - School buildings and Office buildings closed
For each asynchronous inclement weather day, students should:
1. Access the inclement weather asynchronous task options chart via the HCPSS Inclement Weather Asynchronous Instruction Plan website or the hard copy that was sent home to families upon request. K-5 students should complete one task per curriculum area:
- 1 Math
- 1 ELA
- 1 Content (either Science, Social Studies, or Health)
- 1 Related Arts task for that color day
3. Submit the printed chart or the completed tasks list on a separate paper to their teacher at the end of the month to get marked as present for the asynchronous day attendance.
For more information, please visit the HCPSS Inclement Weather Asynchronous Instruction Plan.

PTA NEWS
PTA Calendar
Nov. 18th – Community Night (assemble Thanksgiving baskets)
INTERNATIONAL FAIR NEEDS A CHAIR OR COMMITTEE OR IT WILL BE CANCELLED
STEM NIGHT NEEDS A FEW PARENTS TO JOIN THE COMMITTEE
Community Night
November 18th from 6:30 -7:30 p.m.
Assembling at least 200 Thanksgiving baskets for families in our community
and HCPSS families
Our costs for turkeys, pies, and perishables are higher then previous years. Some of our large donors and businesses are unable to contribute as much as previous years.
100 baskets go to the Morgan Chaple UMC Food Pantry in Woodbine for our community. The 4-County Lions Club, who have been our partners since the beginning, provide turkeys, dairy, and potatoes for these baskets. The other 100 go to HCPSS families including Lisbon families, and we provide the turkeys, dairy, pie and potatoes. Please consider donating food or funds to support this much needed program. Each basket will be roughly $60 to fill. Over the past 5 years our Lisbon families have provided 850 Thanksgiving baskets.
Community Night is a wonderful event where our students and the community come to assemble the baskets and prepare them. We are fortunate that our children can have a hands on way to show and feel how good giving is.
The need is greater, and more families have reached out to receive baskets.

Lisbon Liaisons Program
Would your family benefit from a person to person resource to better engage with Lisbon Elementary?
Our Lisbon Liaisons program is a person to person resource for families who are new to the Woodbine/Lisbon/Mt. Airy community and/or for whom English is a second language and may need a helping hand to better engage with our school community. These families will be matched up with a Liaison family who is more established in the Lisbon Elementary community to provide a familiar face at school events and to answer any questions that may come up about school events, activities, procedures, etc. If English is a second language for your family and/or your family is new to the area and if you are interested in being matched up with a Liaison family, please contact Ellen Bockelman, the Lisbon Liaison coordinator, at meabbock@gmail.com.
