LnHS Update 10.6.23
Composites Lab Construction is Beginning!
Dear Lancaster High School Eagle Families
In a moment of good news/bad news, I would like to inform you of exciting construction beginning next week. Our long-awaited Composites Lab will begin construction this coming Tuesday. A composites lab is a specialized facility equipped for the research, development, and fabrication of composite materials. These labs play a crucial role in testing and innovating with composite materials for various applications, from aerospace and automotive industries to construction and sports equipment. We are very excited to offer this program to our students very shortly. The "bad news?" Please excuse the eyesore of construction materials near our student entrance. However, each time you see this construction mess, just remember the amazing lab being built behind those temporary fences!
Before-School TUTORING HAS STARTED. We have tutoring in the library from 7:40am-8:40am. Tutorning has a check-in/check-out system. Parents, if you want to verify if your student attended, have them take a picture of their checkout card. You will see what time your student checked in and checked out. The tutoring program was completely restructured and is set up for success for our students. PLEASE NOTE: Wed Oct. 11th there will be no tutoring due to the PSAT.
Upcoming Dates
October 11th - PSAT at school for 9th-11th graders (seniors get an extra grad ticket for attending on this day. Make sure your senior is here as we have an informational and fun day planned for them).
October 18th - STUDENT FREE DAY
October 24th - College Information Night @the Fairgrounds (time TBD but will be evening)
If you haven't already, follow us on @lancaster.hs on Instagram and @lancasterhs on Facebook. Look under the "Stay Connected" heading for full information on how to make sure you always have accurate and timely information.
Sincerely,
Your Principal, Zach Mercier

Yearbook and Senior Pics
Hello Senior parents!
I have a few announcements for you from the Yearbook staff and two attachments. Please reach out directly to jgriffey@avhsd.org if you have any questions.
1.) Senior portraits are due to be booked by October 31st. So far only about 200 of our 657 seniors have taken senior portraits. I have attached photo options for you, and remember the sitting fee for just the senior portrait to be included in the yearbook is $18. Please contact O'Connor photography today to book! Since this question comes up a lot: they will automatically be sent to me.
2.) The Yearbook is officially on sale at $65 (plus tax)! The price will go up to $75 11/1 and then again to $85 in January, so be sure to lock in the lowest price of the year today! You can order through Jostens, from our student store or directly from Ms. Mendoza in accounting in-person or via telephone. You must order through Jostens if you want personalizations, icons or any other extras.
3.) Senior recognition ads are officially for sale as well through Jostens. I have attached instructions. The deadline for senior ad purchases is 12/22. Don't miss out on honoring your child's accomplishments!
Please reach out if you have any questions at jgriffey@avhsd.org. The yearbook staff has already gotten some terrific photos and we have a lot of Media Academy students in the class this year, so I feel confident this will be the best LNHS yearbook yet.

VIRTUAL *LIVE* Tutoring (Virtual Tutoring with a Live Person)
Did you know that your student has LIVE 24 HOUR FREE tutoring available in your student's PowerSchool? Our district has partnered with Princeton Review to provide every student with this amazing service. Your student can be connected with a tutor in any subject any time of the day, for FREE. These are not videos, they are live, vetted, tutors. Think of Uber, but for tutoring! The tutors will even edit papers for your student with less than a 24 hour turn-a-round period.
The easiest way to access this free, live, virtual tutoring, is to have your student log into google with their school account, log into Power School, look on the left side of the screen and find the live tutor button, and follow the easy to follow directions from there. If you need assistance, CLICK HERE or the button below for a tutorial.
How does my child get lunch?
Lunch is free for all and can be found at the multiple lunch sites on campus.
This change means students are not required to complete a meal application or provide any specific documentation, however, we are still required to gather family income and demographic information to ensure that your student benefits from additional state and federal programs that are available.
The California Department of Education uses this confidential information to identify qualifications for additional funding that provides for many programs and opportunities for our students. Based on the information provided, eligible students may receive fee waivers for the PSAT, SAT, free college applications, or much more. The AVUHSD is eligible for additional supplemental and targeted funding for our student programs and services based on a variety of factors, including this data.
