¡Bienvenidos Familias de Estudiantes Preescolar! Welcome Preschool Families!
We are so excited for this school year. We look forward to meeting you and your child on Friday, Sept. 1st. This is a day for you to bring in your child’s school supplies between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12”00 p.m. It is not a school day! This gives us an opportunity to start the first day of school with our full attention on the children and less on supplies.
We invite you and your child to tour the room. However, if you could help us out by reminding your children that toys and materials are not out for play on this day, it would be appreciated. We want them to wait and get excited on the first day of school.
When we meet you and your child, we will introduce ourselves in Spanish. We will keep you informed about curriculum, school events and anything else with our weekly newsletter in English.
School does not begin until Tuesday, September 5th at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 12 noon. Breakfast is served each day at 8:30 a.m. or you may send in a breakfast snack from home. Milk is also sold each day. It is a half-day! Lunch will be at 11:30 daily except on ½ days. No lunch is served on ½ days. The rest of the week will be full days from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
If you are sending a breakfast snack in a lunch box, please talk to your child about what you want them to eat in the morning and what they need to save and eat at lunch. Sometimes, they don’t understand that the pizza slice is for lunch and the cheese stick or fruit is for morning. Lunchboxes need to be labeled with your child’s name please!
Don’t ever bring in fast food at lunch time for your child. This is not allowed and is a school-wide rule. If your child forgot their snacks or lunches, just let the office know and we will make sure he or she is well-fed. You will be billed at the end of the month. You may also drop off a forgotten lunch or snack in the office.
Drop-off and Pick-up times will be 15 minutes earlier to allow for signing in and signing out. 7:45 in the morning and 2:45 in the afternoons.
We are a licensed childcare facility so we need to abide by Washington State Department of Early Learning regulations. One important regulation is that parents upon arrival with their children sign-in and also sign-out at dismissal. We are working out a system that will not cause a parking problem. Pray for us!! We are hoping to go out into the cul-de-sac in the front of the building and have you drive around till you get to one of the teachers who will hand you a clipboard for you to sign in your child. We hope to keep the carpool line moving around the cul-de-sac.
However, if want to come into the building to deliver your child, you will have to follow the other carpool line that goes to the back of the school. There you will notice two lines. One is for parents to drop-off and drive off and another is a line to park by the back wall to the right of the playground. That would be the line for you! Then you get out with your child and walk all the way around to the front the school between the Nun’s house and the school building on left and enter through the office front doors where you will sign-in!!!!
Don’t go in the back doors of the school building. Grades K-8 will go through there.
On rainy days, we have a different procedure. Students come in with you when they arrive no earlier than 7:45 a.m. Teachers will not go out to the cul-de-sac on rainy days. In the afternoons, when we see your car arrive through the foyer, your child’s last name will be announced and they will go out through the front door with a teacher and umbrella and sign-out sheet. Your older siblings will hear their last name called over the Speakers and they will come down and go out through the front door with their Pre-K brother or sister.
To make an easier transition to preschool in the fall, the following skills should have been practiced over the school year at home. You still have a little time!!
• A potty routine that is consistent including the ability to clean themselves with toilet paper, closing the door and washing their hands well. Pants for boys should have elastic waistbands. There are urinals available.
• Separating from parents with little difficulty. A quick kiss, hug and good-bye is a good habit to start.
• Transitioning from outside/playground to indoor activities with little difficulty. They need to respond to the teacher when they are asked to line-up.
On Friday, August 28th, please bring along the following when turning in supplies:
• A “close-up” picture of your child. 4” by 6” is a good size.
• A picture of your whole family for our classroom family album) It will be in our classroom album all year.
See you soon! Don’t forget our School Picnic in the front of the school (cul-de-sac) on Sunday, August 27th, from 1-3 p.m. You will be asked to bring a potluck item as a side dish. You will be notified soon about your potluck item from our Parent Social Committee. I would bring folding chairs or blankets to place on grassy area. You will get to meet faculty and parents!! There is also a used uniform sale this day.
Happy Summer!
Mrs. Amparo Farias
