Service Trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos
Fourteen PVHS students spent time tirelessly working in one of the most impoverished areas of Quito improving an after school facility that keeps kids off the streets. They painted, did concrete repair, installed fake sod and safety steps, cooked and served children their only meal of the day, and handed out donations. In the Galapagos, they painted at a school, played with the children, handed out donations, and planted trees. I can’t begin to tell you how appreciative the Ecuadorian people were. Please enjoy a few pictures below. The last picture is of Kamryn Parker who appropriately planted a tree in the name of Brett Silva. Warmly, Amy Besnard
The students that went were absolutely amazing. They worked hard, soaked in every experience, smiled, laughed, and helped each other out. They represented PVHS and the Chico community in the best way possible. Students who went on the trip are: Ryann Woods, Annaiz Holland, Alaina Martine, Kamryn Parker, Max Dotson, Piper Mitchell, Dom Isom, Nathan Hitchman, Matthew Arnovick, Jordan Pitman, Brandon and Justin Dodds, Emily Schroeder, and Jennifer Park. - Christine Callas
CMEA Music Festivals Success
Congratulations to the Chico Jr. High School music department! The CJHS students rocked it at the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) music festivals. Per CJHS music teacher Todd Filpula, the “student's behavior was exemplary and their playing and singing was outstanding as well. They represented our school in an amazing fashion!”
The CJHS Beginning Band received a rating of Excellent (II) and both the Concert Band and Choir received a Superior (I) rating. Way to go CJHS Music students! We are all so proud of you!
OUR AMAZING STAFF
Educating for Careers
A big shout out to the educators that attended "Educating for Careers" Statewide Conference in Sacramento. Laura Dietle, Stephanie Welton, Courtney Bullock, Greg Ford, Matt Joiner, Mike Peck, Susan Sullins and Priscilla Burns represented CUSD. The event was a marathon of sessions with hundreds of breakout sessions and the keynote speakers were truly inspiring. Favorites were Dr. Adolph Brown and J. B. Bernstein (wrote Million Dollar Arm). Both provided sound strategies to revitalize your heart and best practices toward success in the classroom. In addition, Mike Peck presented his fabulous AME program in a session.
