What's Hatching?
November 2022
Happy November! We have reached my favorite time of year. It is a time when we are encouraged to reflect on what we are thankful for in our lives. I have a lot to be thankful for this year. I continue to be thankful for the opportunity to join this school community. You have all welcomed me with open arms and I am so grateful for the support and warmth you have shown over the past year and a half.
I am thankful for the trust that you show every day when you leave your child in our care. I am thankful that we are able to work together as a team. It is a privilege to work with such wonderful families, and I want you to know how thankful I am for YOU! As we are celebrating your child's growth during our fall conferences, I hope you also know that we are also celebrating you, and all the dedication you have provided as parents.
I hope that this season of the year allows you the time to reflect on what you are thankful for in your life. You and your families will certainly be in my thoughts as I give my thanks this year. Thank you for all of your support and understanding!
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Conway

As building principal, I am very proud of the opportunities that WIN time offers every student in the building. It is my firm belief that all children can learn, but not all children learn at the same time or in exactly the same way. I am committed to using all the resources available to help your child not only meet the standards, but to excel at their highest potential. If you have specific questions regarding your child’s placement during WIN time, please contact your child’s teacher. For all other general questions, please feel free to contact me at (585) 589-2030. We look forward to seeing our students grow and evolve during these personalized periods of time!
October Spotlight Moments:
- October 10-October 14: Fire Safety Week ~ Each classroom received a visit from our local Fireman to discuss fire safety and prevention. A big THANK YOU to the Albion Fire Department, Barre Fire Department, Carlton Fire Department and COVA for making our fire safety week at the Elementary school a great success! Stay tuned for the project winners who get a ride to school in a fire truck!
- Friday, October 14: Empire Games ~ Student athletes from Albion Central School District returned to competition at the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged held at The College at Brockport. The Purple Eagles competed in an array of events, including track, shot put, long jump, discus and archery. This year marked the 35th anniversary of the games.
- Friday, October 21: Autism Nature Trail @ Letchworth State Park ~ Students in Mrs. Berg's, Mrs. Simpson's, Mrs. Gabaliski and Mrs. K. Uderitz's classes enjoyed a beautiful fall day at the Humphrey Nature Center at Letchworth!
- Friday, October 21: Annual Fall Festival ~ FFA students hosted an array of activities for elementary school students. These activities included pumpkin painting, viewing of combines and gravity wagons, a wooden cider press presentation, and having donuts/apple slices and cider. We thank Panek's Pumpkin Patch for their donations!
- Friday, October 21: The first PTA school dance of the year was a welcome treat for our students to have fun with their friends and of course show their moves on the dance floor!
- October 24-28: Red Ribbon Week ~ Our theme this year was Soaring Towards a Bright Future! Students were educated about the importance of good decision making and provided with the tools they need in order to have a successful drug free future. Each day was filled with a fun filled theme, from wearing bright neon colors and sunglasses, to wearing their team's favorite jersey and of course wearing red from head to toe in support of remaining drug free!

The District regularly practices emergency procedures by having periodic fire drills, lockdown drills, and evacuation drills. This ensures that all District staff members and students know what to do and where they need to go in case of a real emergency. So far this year, our building has practiced several fire drills and a lock down drill. We are very proud of the way our students follow the directions of their teacher and staff members!
Welcome to the Counselor's Corner!
Every month, Mrs. Badura and Mrs. George, your elementary school counselors will focus on strategies that improve our social-emotional health and wellbeing.
November’s Topic: Gratitude
Did you know that expressing gratitude or thankfulness by showing others just how much you
appreciate them, can positively change your brain? When we are grateful, the body boosts dopamine and serotonin levels. Dopamine and serotonin are two examples of neurotransmitters or chemicals in our brain that help regulate our mood. When we have an increase in dopamine or serotonin in the body, our mood improves immediately, leaving us with feelings of happiness and positive well-being. Research also shows that expressing gratitude can reduce stress, by lowering cortisol, a stress hormone in your body, which improves not only your physical health, but your mental health as well.
Here are some strategies using gratitude that may lower the stress you feel during the upcoming holiday season:
Watch “The Thankful Song” video, https://youtu.be/YeSdQmO51Ps, and discuss with your
loved ones why you are thankful.
Keep a gratitude jar. Every evening ask each member of your family to write down one thing
they are thankful for, and at the end of the year read all the amazing things that happened that year.
Saying Thank You: Let others know that you appreciate them by saying “thank you” out loud or taking the time to write them a thank you note. Even if you are not able to thank someone
personally, pausing to thank them will help foster gratitude.
Keep a gratitude journal. Research has shown that even making a simple daily list of things you are grateful can significantly increase your happiness and life satisfaction after just two weeks!
We are so thankful for each and every one of you!
