A Message From Mrs. Doyle
Dear Peter Noyes Families,
Congratulations on making it through the first three days of Sudbury Learns from Home! The teachers and staff have worked exceptionally hard launching this move to online learning. A few weeks ago, most of us hadn’t even heard of Zoom, much less be prepared to offer classroom conference calls. Teachers are swiftly learning about Seesaw, Flipgrid, Screencastify, Lexia, Google Classroom, and so, so much more. This Noyes team is absolutely extraordinary and I am so grateful for their professionalism, their commitment, and their support of their students and of each other during this unprecedented time.
Let me acknowledge that this has been quite challenging for you and your children too. Many of you are also juggling work-at-home responsibilities, caring for members of your family, and learning on-the-fly about how to support your children’s academics. It is also totally different for the children and they do need support from home to do it all -- participate in video conferencing, access their work in Google Classroom/Seesaw, submit their work, communicate with their teachers, etc. This is an essential partnership and we all need each other to make it work.
Yes, I know you don’t have a degree in education (well, most of you). I know you are stressed. I promise you that you’re in great company. We are all working tirelessly to make remote learning as effective as possible while simultaneously managing our own families’ needs. No one signed up for this unanticipated school closing. We know. We wish we were in school too.
But, alas, we are not. We are in a state of emergency. A global pandemic. I trust that you, like our teachers, are doing the very best you can given this situation. I promise you that is enough. Your children will be fine. Do not panic. No one is failing elementary school. If your child or your family cannot manage all of the assignments, simply do what you can do. If you need more time to submit work, I assure you that teachers will accept it. If school at your house is mostly whatever can get done on the weekends because the weekdays are just too much, no problem. We are flexible. We understand. Like we are telling the children, simply do your best.
We are hopeful that students will continue learning by participating in the provided work and we expect them to do it to the best of their abilities, but please remember that while school is incredibly important, the health and well-being of everyone in our Noyes community is what is truly paramount right now. We hope you and your loved ones are all safe and healthy and continue to be so.
When we do return to school, our teachers will meet the challenge of adapting instruction to meet the needs of all our students no matter where they are or what they were able to accomplish during the school closure. That is our job and we are anticipating and preparing for this challenge. As always, if you have questions or need support, please reach out to any of us.
Sincerely,
Annette Doyle
