Back to School Info
Hummingbird Haven 9/4/2022
Class Time: 8:15-3:15 Monday-Thursday
Car line Drop-off is from 8:00-8:15am
You're Invited! Wednesday, September 7th to Donuts for Grownups from 8:15-8:45am
School Supplies
We are not allowed to ask parents for supplies. However...I will say that there are some things that we use (not school supplied) and run out of very quickly:
- real Paper towels - the school provided towels are the thin brown ones that absorb absolutely nothing when it comes to washing tables multiple times a day and cleaning up drink spills.
- Disinfecting wipes
Car Signs
To help us all identify who the child is, what class they are in, and what car they go to at dismissal, I will be giving you car signs to display for us.
The IDEAL display is using a child pants hanger. Clip it to the sign and hang it from your rearview mirror when you get into the car line. We can see this very easily and it helps to speed up the process. If you don't have a hanger, you can tuck the sign into the passenger door window (but it will fall in).
Please try to avoid putting on the passenger side dashboard. The angle of the dash makes it very difficult for us read.
GSRP Arrival Procedures
At Home:
- Please monitor your child’s heath daily. It is very important that children do not come to school when they are ill. Children may not be at school with a cough or temperature. (With a temperature of 100 degrees (F) and higher, your child may not come to school)
- Please do not send your student to school after taking fever reducing medication.
Full Day Drop Off from Ellen Street Car Loop
Drop Off is from 8:00 AM to 8:15 AM
Parents line up in the car loop with first car stopping at the large/tall cone (near the sidewalk going to the office). Cars must stay in line as staff assist in unloading. For the safety of all, cars will move up as the car in front of them moves forward as if a train of cars---CARS SHOULD NOT PASS OTHER CARS DURING GSRP DROP-OFF We need to keep everyone safe!
To prep unloading:
Parents put car in park and get out to open child’s door, and undo child’s seat belt
Parent and child should come wearing their mask
Parent says goodbye and leaves car door open
Parent gets back in driver’s seat
Staff will come to cars in the Unloading Zone.
Child climbs out with belongings, closes car door, and goes to an assigned gathering location with classroom teachers.
Class starts and attendance is taken at 8:15 AM. Classrooms then proceed to the playground areas.
Children should come dressed and ready to start their day for outdoor play.
Arrivals after 8:15 AM are tardy. A staff member will unload your child as above.
Arrivals after 8:30 AM must park in the parking lot and walk your child to the office to check in.
GSRP Dismissal Procedures
In the Ellen Street Car Loop
Dismissal Time: 3:15 PM--for Full-Day GSRP
Parents should have the sign provided with their child’s name on it displayed in the window where it is visible to staff.
Parents pull up and stop at the large/tall cone (near the sidewalk going to the office). The Loading Zone will be 3-4 cars at a time.
To prep Loading
Parents put car in park and get out. Remain by your car.
Wait for child to come to you
Load and secure child in car
Get back in drivers seat
Parents may pull forward to leave the loop when the car in front pulls forward. Do not pull out of the line or go around.
At the WoW Office
Parents who arrive after the car line is done (later than 3:15 PM) will go to the office for pickup. Parent must park in the parking lot and come in to pick up your child.
Dismissal Part 2
What is not mentioned above is how a child gets released. It's critical that we teach all students that even though they might see you standing outside your car in the car line, they may not run/go to you until the teacher standing with them tells them it's time; and then they will be escorted. Please help us with this by not calling them over or waving them over. We tell them they can smile, blow kisses, wave, give air hugs, etc. But until the teacher calls them, they need to remain with the class.
The same idea applies to parents that might park in the parking lot and walk across the sidewalk (this is not preferred). Please do not quietly slip away with your child at pickup. Eye contact with the teacher is not enough, make sure there is verbal acknowledgment that you have your child.
Class starts OUTSIDE
This is not a pass on arriving late; arriving after 8:15 is tardy and goes in your child's permanent attendance record. Outside time IS class time and we hope that is honored. :-)
School Shoes
The shoes/rain boots/snow boots that are worn TO/FROM school will be the "outside" shoes.
What to Wear/Bring
If possible, I recommend sending in a zip up hoodie that can stay at school as well. It will start to get cool in the mornings.
Your child needs a full-size backpack for school. The small/toddler-size backpacks are not not big enough to hold school supplies and belongings.
Please send in extra clothes for spills and accidents.
All belongings should be LABELED with your child's name. :-)
Food
Children cannot bring food from home unless they have a doctor's note.
All families are asked to fill out the Free/Reduced Lunch application; even if you think you will not qualify. The applications help the district with Title 1 funding and more.
No matter what your result comes back as....you will not pay for meals. If there is a charge for your child, it is paid for with the GSRP grant.
Be sure to include all the children/people in your home. You only have to do one per family.
