Schedules

At this point, all schedules have been reviewed and approved by the ESOL Office. If there is a need to change your schedules for any reason, please contact Felicia or Janet for pre-approval before making any changes.

*You do not need to get approval to add or remove student from a group due to enrollment.

Elementary Waivers

Please do not provide parents with the ESOL Waiver form until a member of staff from the Office of ESOL has spoken with them. Once this has taken place and a decision has been reached, you will be informed of the outcome.

New Secondary ESOL Mid-Year Waiver Process

All families whose children qualify for ESOL services have the right to waive services if they feel this is the in best interest of the child.

As has been the practice, if a family elects to waive services at time of enrollment, the family must indicate “No” on the Parent Notification Letter and sign a Refusal of Services Form. This will be completed at the Welcome Center for new entrants in Grades 1-12 or at the school for new entrants in Kindergarten. For new entrants transferring from a different Maryland public school system, who do not enroll at the Welcome Center, please contact Anny Hoge-Franz at the ESOL Office (443-809-9640) to facilitate this process.

Starting in November, the following is the new process for mid-year waivers in BCPS for secondary students whose home school is not the ESOL center that they are attending:

1. When a family requests a potential waiver, a meeting is planned with the family to discuss ESOL services. The meeting will take place at the ESOL center and will be arranged by the ESOL Department Chair at the middle school level or the ESOL Counselor at the high school level. The following people should be invited to the meeting:

  • Parent or guardian
  • Designated representative from the ESOL Center (sending school)
  • Designated representative from the non-ESOL Center (receiving school). Requests should be sent to the Guidance Chair.
  • ESOL Specialist or ESOL Resource Teacher. Requests should be sent to Anny Hoge- Franz.

2. If a family decides to waive services, the Waiver Form and the Refusal of Services form will be completed at the meeting and an appointment will be scheduled for enrollment at the receiving school. Copies of the documentation must be sent to the Office of ESOL, so that they correct designation can be made in the Student Information System.

Questions regarding this information should be directed Anny Hoge-Franz.

EL Update Form

When students come to the school directly from another Maryland school system, they are not required to go to the Welcome Center for testing. Please ensure that you complete the 2019/20 EL Update Form.
