Cape and Islands Suicide Awareness Walk
Good morning C.I.S.P.C. supporters,
Please consider volunteering or joining a team to help bring awareness to such an important cause! The first event is scheduled for Friday April 27, 2018. The walk is Saturday April 28, 2018.
Please take the time to read a brief letter from our friends at Sharing Kindness.
A letter from Sharing Kindness.
Dear Friends,
On May 13, 2017, Sharing Kindness Inc. offered the first Suicide Awareness Walk on Cape Cod to honor the legacy of Jeremy Walters, a Nauset junior who died by suicide at the age of sixteen. We were humbled and grateful that over 400 members of our community joined us at Eldredge Park that chilly Saturday to walk, to honor the memories of all the loved ones our community has lost to suicide and to offer support to those who struggle with mental illness.
Last year, we partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, AFSP. AFSP works nationally to increase visibility of this issue and invest in research which they turn into educational programming. We were glad to have their support for the walk, as our new non-profit was just getting started at that time. Since then, we have determined that what works nationally isn’t always the best fit for Cape Cod.
This year, we chose to partner with local organizations that are already working to raise awareness around suicide on the Cape & Islands; therefore, our walk has been renamed as the Cape & Islands Suicide Awareness Walk and it is promoted through a partnership among Sharing Kindness, Inc., the Samaritans on Cape Cod & the Islands, and the Cape & Islands Suicide Prevention Coalition.
We ask for your support to make this year’s walk a success. Please consider sponsoring our walk and helping us to educate our community around suicide. If you have questions about the walk and sponsorship, please contact:
