LW Receives Grant to Enter 4 Teams in Plant The Moon Challenge
The Illinois Space Grant Consortium is excited to announce that Lowpoint-Washburn has been chosen as a grant recipient for the Plant The Moon Challenge! Our district will have 4 teams spanning from 4th-12th grade.
Students are challenged to explore the question - Can we successfully plant crops on the Moon or Mars? What nutrients, fertilizers or other modifications are necessary to grow nutrient rich, sustainable food sources for future astronauts?
NASA's Artemis Program is the United States' new initiative to return to the Moon and LW students will be participating in this international competition with the goal of discovering the best crop conditions to support this mission!

LW FAFSA Night - February 5th (6pm)
An admissions counselor and financial aid representative from Illinois Central College will be at LW at 6pm on Monday, February 5th in the high school media center. This evening will be an opportunity for families to have guidance with the following components:
- Complete FAFSA - January has been a difficult month to complete the FAFSA as there has been a soft launch of the newly updated form. Completing this form is a graduation requirement as well as a requirement for all colleges. Students and parents should have their FAFSA ID prior to attending this session. ICC staff will be able to help you with FAFSA completion even if students plan to attend a different college or are completing the form as part of the graduation requirement.
- Apply for ICC admission - Students planning to attend ICC after graduation will be able to complete the application process with the guidance of an admissions counselor.
Roanoke-Benson families have also been invited to this session as we work to give area students the tools and assistance that they need to be secure with post-high school plans.
All forms are digital. Student chromebooks will be available or you can bring a laptop from home.
