Two Weeks In...
Sept. 18, 2020
Wednesday, Sept. 23rd
These days will occur once a month, in place of the 2-hour late starts we had in previous years. Students who typically come to school in person every day will be provided with paper and pencil activities that will go home with them on Sept. 22. Students are expected to complete this work at home on Sept. 23. Look for more communication from your child's classroom teacher next week. Please start planning ahead for your child's care on this full day, as it's right around the corner!
What's the Scoop on Distance Learning?
Wednesday, September 23, is also the first full Professional Development Day for Distance Learning staff. Our K-5 distance learning students will be provided with lessons in SeeSaw and/or Google Classroom. Those tasks need to be completed (or at least attempted), and something needs to be turned in for our daily attendance. The teachers will be doing attendance at about 10:30 on Wednesday to ensure all students have logged on and turned in one thing. In addition, please know that on these distance learning days, extra reading minutes and math practice are great ways to keep up your skills.

Important Reminders
Important Times:
7:40 - Students should not be dropped off or walk to school before this time. There is NO MORNING RECESS for students, and the doors won't be open before 7:40. Students should enter the building and go directly to their classrooms when they arrive.
*Students who eat a school breakfast will have it served to them in their classrooms.
8:00 - The school day officially begins. Students need to be in their seats and ready to go by 8:00.
*Students should not arrive at school before 7:40. There is no adult supervision on the playground because there is no morning recess.*
Drop-Off / Pick-Up / Parking Procedures:
A.M. Drop-Off: Parents who drive their children to school should drop them off between 7:40 - 8:00 using the loop at the south end of the Jefferson campus. Use Fairfield Avenue to access the Pick-Up / Drop-Off loop. Please DO NOT drop students off at the main entrance before 8:00.
P.M. Pick-Up: Beginning at 1:40 parents should use the loop accessible from Fairfield Avenue to pick up their children. Please DO NOT use the front parking lot / main entrance at this time. Reducing traffic in our main parking lot immediately after dismissal creates a safer situation for our students riding buses and walking home.
Parents who park in the main lot during this time will be asked to use the parent pick-up loop at the other end of the building. Each family is assigned a pick-up number which they are asked to have displayed in their vehicles as they enter the pick-up loop.
Visiting the School: Because the state's Safe Schools Plan recommends "Restricting nonessential visitors, volunteers, and activities involving external groups or organizations," we will be limiting access to the building throughout the school year. This doesn't mean we won't have parent volunteers this year, but it does mean visitor access will be monitored closely.
Any adult entering the building needs to visit the office and follow school sign-in procedures. State Statute 609.605 subd.IV
Picking Up Your Child During the School Day: If you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day, please contact the school office prior to your arrival. We will get your child ready to go. When you arrive you can either call the office to ask for someone to walk your child out to you, or you can ring the buzzer at the front door and wait for your child to meet you there.
Attendance: Please call the school office at 388-5480 or the Health Line at 388-2854 if your child is sick or is going to miss school.
Medication: If your child needs to take, or keep, medication at school, please contact our Health Assistant, Mrs. Nessler. We are not allowed to give medication at school without the appropriate documentation from a physician.
